Is the Porsche 992 a Surefire Hit…or a Big Miss?

From our friends at Rennlist come a pair of forum threads dedicated to celebrating–or eviscerating– the all-new Porsche 992.

After all the leaks, spy photos, and previews, the 992 era of the iconic Porsche 911 began at the start of the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show. Every reporter and their photographer fell over themselves to get a good look or two at Stuttgart’s latest and greatest, nearly all of them giving the 992 the thumbs-up.

And while we know some of you are inclined to agree, we also know there are a few of you who believe the 992 is a hot mess. Neither of you are alone, as our friends at Rennlist have happened upon a pair of threads from two of their forum members devoted to answering the biggest question about the 992: is it the bees’ knees, or is it a total dumpster fire?

Love the 992?!? Please come in and tell us why in a NON BASHING, CONSTRUCTIVE thread

Just a month before the reveal, 992 skeptic limegreen started the thread “for those who are excited and optimistic for the upcoming 992,” while also asking fans what he and other skeptics are missing in the excitement over the new 911.

One supporter, Rennolazine says he likes “that the 8 speed pdk will be able to handle big torque. Like panamera hybrid levels of torque,” as well as the “real” cupholder. Chuckbdc adds that he likes “the front flares a lot- they fit well with the shape of the wide rear ‘hips,’ but suspects “that the wider track that they support will be what is important.” And emix75 loves “the new and interesting interior colors. Agave green and island green. Curious to see island green, on the configurator it looks like a really nice pale olive shade. ALso curious about the new gentian blue exterior color.”

Hate the 992??! OFFICIAL VENTING THREAD # Ultimate bashing allowed. Step in the ring.

On the other hand, there are more than enough voices ready to deride the 992 for existing. For them, ringleader STG has their marching orders in his thread.

“Hate the new 992? Tell us how you really feel! Let it all out. No moderating and not for the sensitive types. It’s got potential to get ugly here. No politically correct rules here. Start the punches, kicking, and nasty insults. NO HOLDS BARRED!”

Limegreen showed up to complain about the center console, whose main feature he says is “dedicated to holding a freakin big gulp. Who cares about cup holders in a sports car? Better yet, how many people actually allow beverages in their 911 at all?” Rocket_boy says he’s seen enough of the 992 to not go out and buy it upon arrival, equating the car “to dating a homely chick (especially the interior) that’s great in bed, but you just can’t get past the looks.” And Psorcery laments that the 992 “is no longer unique… Every car has what the 992 has. Screens and tech everywhere. Sure it’s going to be better in pretty much every measurable category, but it’s not going to be any ‘cooler’ IMO.”

Where do you fall on the 992? Why not visit our friends and let them know what you think? Of course, you could always bring the discussion to our forums, too.
