The Grand Tour Racing Driver Auditions Aren’t Going Well

By -

When you put a paid Porsche driver into a competitor’s car, things get weird quickly…or slowly.

Just in case you’ve missed the news, The Grand Tour is coming back in just a few weeks. With the second season of the show, the team is changing a few things up a bit to streamline the program and make it more entertaining. One of the pieces being cut is “The American”, Mike Skinner.

The Grand Tour Racing Driver Auditions Aren’t Going Well

In an attempt to replace Mr. Skinner, Jeremy Clarkson decided a simple series of tryouts would be best. The first potential driver to arrive is none other than former Formula One driver Mark Webber.

Of course for those of you who have followed Mark’s career since he left Formula One, you know that he took a seat with Porsche’s WEC team. You see, this fact is important because for his “interview” Jeremy Clarkson asks Mark to set a time in two different cars. The first is the Porsche 911 GT2 RS, and the second is a Mercedes-AMG GT R.

If you have ever wondered what a conflict of interest looks like, this video provides a perfect example.

After setting the track on fire with the new 911 GT2 RS, Mark Webber gets into the Mercedes and proceeds to set a lap that an elderly man could best while riding a bicycle. Listening to the video, it’s doesn’t sound like he even gets into second gear.

Regardless, it’s a hilarious video to watch, and it’s presented with that perfect combination of amazement, dumbfounded looks, and dry humor that Clarkson, Hammond, and May have built their broadcasting legacy on. We can’t wait to see what drivers arrive to try out in the next video, and of course, we’ll get to see who the new driver is when Season 2 of The Grand Tour hits Amazon Prime on December 8th.

Our money is on Ben Collins.
