New XX Programme entry set to debut at Autosport International Show with revised aero to make it the most advanced Prancing Horse yet.

Ferrari will debut a new, lighter FXX-K Evo with more downforce in January 2018, the company announced in a press release November 28. This will replace the current FXX-K in the XX Programme lineup.

Revisions to the aerodynamic design will add 23 percent more downforce at top speed. That tops out the downforce figures at 830 kilograms (about 1,830 pounds). That increase comes in some part from the large twin-element fixed rear wing. That fixed wing includes a center element like the “shark fin” found in modern Formula 1 and Le Mans Prototype-style cars. It also works in concert with the active spoiler.

However, the aero changes come holistically. The new underbody terminates in redesigned diffusers at the rear bumper. That bumper also includes bigger openings behind the rear tires. All of that works to flow cleaner air off the rear of the car, which likely keeps it from blending with air exiting the diffuser.

We will surely hear “F1-inspired” many times in talking about the front aero. Ferrari also redesigned the F-XX-’s front bumper to include new dive planes that are split by vertical turning vanes at the front bumpers’ corners. The front-end work also included revisions to the front brakes’ cooling intakes. That means more cooling air for the hard-working binders without adding drag to the overall aerodynamic profile.

The FXX-K Evo carries over the previous car’s powertrain. The howling 6.3-liter V12 and electric power unit still put down more than 1,000 combined horsepower. That means plenty of pace for the few owners who will drive the limited track-only Ferrari.

FXX Programme

Those few owners with the chance to buy this newest car will participate in it under Ferrari’s Corse Clienti FXX Programme. Ferrari keeps the cars and maintains them, but they invite the owners out to special invitation-only track days across the world every year. The previous FXX-K came with a $2.9 million price tag — so expect to pay a few hundred-thousand dollars more for the Evo —and was only offered to the most loyal Ferrari customers.

The FXX-K Evo will debut at the 2018 Autosport International Show in Birmingham, England, from January 11 to 14. It will join the 2017 FIA World Endurance Championship-winning Ferrari 488 GTE and a Ferrari 488 Challenge car on display.
