Return of the Supra is a dream come true for the aftermarket parts and tuning industry. Expect many mods!

We’ve waited for 21 long years. It’s been a difficult time for us automotive enthusiasts and tuners. A world without the Supra was never one we hoped to live in. It took the tuner community by storm. As soon as a few gearheads found out they could tweak the 2JZ and get upwards of 500HP without fear of engine failure, we knew that Japan had once again given us something extraordinary. Sadly, it wasn’t meant to last. The U.S. saw its last Supra in 1998.

We found out in July 2018, officially, that the Supra was returning. It was the worst kept secret in the auto industry at the time, but the announcement created quite the splash nonetheless. The reaction was a bit mixed. Many of us were psyched out of our minds that the Supra was back. Others responded with less enthusiasm; especially upon hearing there would not be a manual transmission option for the Toyota legend. But Texas-based tuning shop European Auto Group shared in an interview with Car Buzz that it has come to save the day!

European Auto Group owner Art Bartosik shared that the company is currently in the process of manual-swapping its first MKV Supra. Bartosik states that EAG is now taking deposits for owners hoping to add a bit more fun to their driving experience. Swaps are expected to take anywhere between 30-45 days costing “around $12,000 in parts and labor.” Pre-orders are currently available for $6,000. And with a quick call, you can have your A90’s shipping to Texas arranged for.

As for the contents of the swap, EAG intends to utilize BMW OEM parts, which should mate perfectly to the German-bred B58 engine. EAG seeks to increase the power output of the vehicle in the process as well with help from Canada-based BMW tuner ProTuning Freaks. Bartosik hopes to reach somewhere between 420-430 wheel horsepower; an increase of at least 85hp. If able to maintain the 50/50 weight distribution-or at least very close to it- this will make for an exhilarating ride.

Moving on to the gear shifter, Bartosik enjoys the idea of a flip-up shifter much like the one in the GR HV Sports concept from Toyota. “We want the shifter to have a flip-up design, just like the concept, with the button underneath programmed to activate Sport Mode.” If done correctly, this could be a great feature many enthusiasts will love.

EAG has plans to display their finished product at this years SEMA show in Las Vegas, which takes place in November. More information on EAG’s manual Supra swap and ordering process can be found on their website. If you have a Supra and the cash, this is an opportunity that’s simply too good to pass up.
