Doug DeMuro Thinks Evo Takes Huracan Lineup to New Heights

By -

Revised Huracan keeps model fresh while retaining the driving dynamics that made it so good in the first place, says YouTuber.

Since the Huracan’s debut in 2015, Lamborghini customers have been able to buy an excellent sports car. It was abundantly clear the Gallardo’s successor would win over new Lamborghini fans with its excellent styling. Superlative ride and handling characteristics only endeared it to the community even more. Five years later, the company has released an extensive update. And now it’s better than ever.

That’s the general impression Doug DeMuro got when he recently sampled the 2020 Lamborghini Huracan Spyder. During his time with the car, he found a lot to like about the updated model. Additionally, DeMuro expressed his honest assessment of the Spyder, which should be required viewing for anyone unsure about which Huracan they want. Overall, it seems Lamborghini put a lot of effort into keeping the Huracan relevant.

Thoughtful Interior Upgrades

As always, DeMuro remains committed to analyzing every little feature and oddity of the car he’s reviewing. The Huracan provides a lot of material for him too. Both the good and the bad. Fortunately, it’s mostly good. The Evo received extensive upgrades in the cabin, mostly tech related, and DeMuro generally liked what Lamborghini did. That’s mainly due to the previous model’s controls, which weren’t very user friendly. “And that meant that the passenger didn’t really have the ability to easily adjust the audio system since they couldn’t see the readout, they couldn’t do anything with the navigation system, so this new center screen is a big deal for the Huracan for the 2020 model year,” says DeMuro. About the only thing wrong with the new touchscreen is the lack of a separate volume knob. Otherwise, it seems like an excellent upgrade.

Because DeMuro sampled the Spyder, he naturally wanted to talk about the interesting characteristics of the convertible. The Spyder is surprisingly configurable with the top down. For starters, there is a separate wind deflector that can be raised when the top is down so wind doesn’t impact the driving experience. That same deflector also serves as the window when the top is up. “So that way if you want to just want to kind of create a little breeze through the interior but you don’t want to put the roof all the way down, you can lower that wind deflector with the roof up and then you get some more air coming through. That’s pretty cool,” says DeMuro.

An Excellent Huracan Where it Counts

While it’s nice that the Huracan received a whole host of interior upgrades, what’s most important is the driving experience. Fortunately, the new Huracan Evo doesn’t disappoint. Part of that has to do with the powertrain upgrades, which basically brought all the benefits of the Performante into the entire lineup. “This car has a rear-wheel steering system. The Performante did also, but in this car apparently it’s been really revised to just be dramatically improved and better,” says DeMuro. Overall, he’s so impressed with the new Huracan that he isn’t sure what Lamborghini could do next. “I just keep thinking how is it possible that they are ever going to improve on this car,” says DeMuro. That’s extremely high praise.

About the only sustained criticism DeMuro levels at the car relates to the specific peculiarities of the Spyder. Headroom is a big issue for him. With the top down, the driver’s sight lines left a lot to be desired. This is something that buyers definitely want to evaluate before they purchase one. As a taller driver, DeMuro has a different perspective. But that doesn’t mean his experience doesn’t apply to shorter drivers too.

With a gorgeous exterior, significant tech upgrades, a slick shifting transmission, and driving dynamics that ape the Performante, the 2020 Huracan Evo is the best Huracan yet. It’s proof that entry level models don’t equal an entry level performance. be sure to watch the whole video to get DeMuro’s whole take on why the Evo is so legendary.
