Infiniti’s ‘Carigami’ uses Japanese inspired craftsmanship to create 1:27 scale models of Q50, QX80, and brand’s iconic FX crossover — all produced at home.

Drawing from its Japanese heritage and dramatic designs, Infiniti has created a good way to spend some time focusing on something fun and interesting for a while now that we all have some time to kick back and take a moment to remember to enjoy the stuff that makes us most happy. And one thing that definitely takes our mind off of things is classic, modern, vintage, exotic, racing, street, off-roading, and every other type of cool car, like the QX80 and Infiniti FX. So, creating scaled-down D.I.Y. models of some of Infiniti’s most impressive vehicles sounds like a great idea to us, especially when it can be done with stuff you can find around the house.

Infiniti’s new three-car collection of “Carigami” models combine elegant design with Japanese inspired craftsmanship to create Origami-like designs that can be downloaded and produced at home. Three different Infiniti models can be produced in 1:27 scale, replicating the design of the Q50, QX80, and the brand’s iconic FX crossover.

The project is part of the brand’s effort to encourage people to stay at home to contain the spread of CV-19, by providing a free creative outlet for customers and fans.

“In this unprecedented time where citizens of the world are doing their part by staying at home, we wanted to develop something that will help ease the boredom, while having a bit of fun” says Phil York, G.M. of Infiniti Global Brand and Marketing. “Our hope is that lovers of cars and crafts alike, will enjoy Carigami.”

With a printer at home, some paper, a craft knife, and glue, users can simply print the templates and assemble their own version of the popular vehicles.

The team who created the project embraced the playful spirit of the concept when producing content, including capturing a scaled-down “at home reveal” of the vehicles on a record turntable (in place of the typical design revolve). The aim is to inspire users who are seeking for a creative outlet as they practice social distancing at home.

Starting with the Q50, the QX80, and the FX Carigami model templates will be progressively available to download here. Users are encouraged to upload images of their efforts to social media with the hashtags #ParkitforNow #Carigami.
