Classic Speed: 1929 Bentley

During the 1920’s Bentley went from strength to strength. Racing triumphs proved reliability, speed and incredible performance. Sales soared. These were the years of the Bentley Boys. Extraordinary adventures followed by extravagant victorious celebrations. Fast forward to present day and we see this wonderfully preserved 1929 Bentley making an appearance at Cars and Coffee in Great Falls, Virginia last weekend.

What we know about this car is it’s a 1929 Bentley 4 1/2 liter, and it’s a true vintage Bentley. The Vintage Bentley cars which were called “W.O.’s” are the Bentley’s which were made between 1919 and 1931 under the direction of Walter Owen Bentley at Cricklewood, before Rolls Royce bought Bentley and moved it to Derby. W.O. is one of the famous “Bentley Boys” who were “united by their love of insouciance, elegant tailoring, and a need for speed,” and won 4 consecutive LeMans races during this era.

“It was also common to have many of the saloons converted into Tourers (convertibles), but this is an original and is in perfect condition. Vintage Bentley cars were consistently well made, powerful, responsive, and surprisingly easy to drive—once you mastered the synchro-less gearbox and the center gas pedal. Absolutely beautiful!”
