Bugatti Teams Up with Jacob & Co. for Two Premium Timepieces

First new Bugatti watch costs over a half-million dollars, but the next will only cost around $36,000.

Bugatti shocked the premium watchmaking world today when the automaker announced a partnership with Jacob & Co., effectively ending the 15-year partnership that the French automaker previously had with Swiss watch brand Parmigiani Fleurier. The new deal with Jacob and Co. begins with a pair of watches, both of which are limited in numbers and, to the average person, both are very expensive.

However, with the first new Bugatti watch set to hit the market carrying an MSRP of over a half-million dollars, the second unit’s price of $36,000 seems like pocket change. In fact, to a Bugatti owner, $36,000 might be pocket change, but both automotive-inspired watches are sure to draw attention from any timepiece aficionado.

Jacob & Co. & Bugatti

The press release from Bugatti announcing the new partnership with Jacob & Co. begins by explaining the fairly logical reasoning for the two companies working together. As you likely know, Bugatti sells some of the world’s most expensive cars and Jacob & Co. is one of the world’s most renowned jewelry houses, while also being well-known for their premium timepieces.

“For this project we found the right partner in Jacob & Co., because we are both absolutely dedicated to innovation with superb technology, absolute beauty, craftsmanship and the highest quality of the materials”, explained Stephan Winkelmann, President of Bugatti.

Bugatti Chrono Edition

“When I look at a Bugatti Chiron, the perfectly refined engineering is so powerful that sometimes the car appears to be moving even when it is standing still”, Jacob Arabo, founder of Jacob & Co., added.  “That’s the same feeling I get when I wear our high complication timepieces: a rush, a sense of energy, movement and power that can barely be contained.”

The companies have plans for two watches thus far, both of which are limited in their production numbers and mind-blowing expensive by the standards of the average person. The first is the Bugatti Edition of the company’s masterpiece the Twin Turbo Furious watch, which features twin triple-axis tourbillons at the bottom of the face, along with a power meter labeled as “fuel” and decorated in the colors of the French flag. Of course, the Bugatti logo is located right in the middle of the face and the outer border is a unique blue.

Jacob & Co. will only make 39 examples of the Twin Turbo Furious Bugatti Edition, 18 in carbon fiber, 18 in rose gold and 3 in diamond. With only 39 being made, they will be hard to get, but the price tag makes them even harder to get, starting at 525,00 Swiss Francs. Based on today’s conversion rates, that is $528,565 in the United States, so six of these watches would cost more than a new Bugatti Chiron.

Jacob & Co.s Bugatti Chrono Edition Limitee 110 Ans

The second product of this partnership will be the Bugatti Chrono Edition Limitee 110 Ans, finished mostly in black and white with the colors of the French flag. This watch is designed to celebrate the 110 years since Ettore Bugatti founded the automaker back in 1909 and it will be limited to just 110 units. Each of these watches will be priced at 36,000 Swiss Francs or $36,295 U.S. dollars.

Perhaps a Bugatti Chiron owner will buy one of each, wearing the Twin Turbo Furious for special occasions while the Chrono Edition would be the everyday watch.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
