British Kids Love the Lamborghini Gallardo

Lamborghini Gallardo

Lamborghini Gallardo, Nissan GTR and Ferrari 430 lead the 10 most loved supercars by young kids in the U.K.

The team at TrackDays.co.uk recently announced that the Lamborghini Gallardo is the most popular supercar among kids in the United Kingdom. The Nissan GTR was second and the Ferrari 430 was third, but you might be wondering why the TrackDays people care what kind of supercars local kids love the most.

Well, that is because TrackDays offers the “Junior Driving Experience” program, allowing kids as young as 11-years-old to get behind the wheel of some of the world’s fastest supercars. The company assembled their list of the most popular supercars among local children by looking at the cars that were most commonly chosen by their youngest customers, and not surprisingly, the Lamborghini was the most-requested high performance machine.

Lamborghini Leads the Way

We don’t know the length of time that TrackDays used for their count, but we know that 24% of the customers who participated in the Junior Driving Experience picked the Lamborghini Gallargo. The Nissan GTR was second with 18% and the Ferrari 430 was third at 16%, so 58% of the young customers picked one of those three cars.

The company also included the supercars that ranked fourth through tenth, and while we don’t have the percentages for the rest of the list, it is an interesting group that includes a hybrid and an American muscle car.

The Aston Martin Vantage was fourth, the Audi R8 was fifth, the McLaren 570S was sixth, the Porsche Boxster S was seventh and the Jaguar Type-F was eighth. Considering that this program is held in the United Kingdom, a list of European luxury-sport machines makes sense. The Nissan is a bit of a surprise in second, but as one of the world’s quickest supercars, we can understand why kids would want to drive one.

Camaro ZL1

The biggest surprises are the ninth and tenth place vehicles, with the BMW i8 and the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 rounding out the list The BMW is a hybrid that offers the look of a supercar, but it is far behind all of the others on this list in terms of performance. Meanwhile, the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is a muscle car with supercar capabilities, so it really says something great about the supercharged Chevy to be included on the list alongside some of the world’s greatest performance cars.

Junior TrackDays

If you live in the United Kingdom, you have a child who loves high performance cars and you want to give them an unforgettable experience, the TrackDays Junior Driving program is hard to beat. The company has outlets all over the country and the kids’ programs start at £49.00, or around $62 U.S. dollars. For that price, the child gets a safety briefing, anywhere from 3 to 6 minutes of track time and a driving certificate, so for around $62, your kid gets to make a couple laps around a road course in a supercar.

You can pay extra to add more track time to the entry-level programs, but there are many other packages that allow your child to drive up to ten cars on the track, which costs £49.00, or about $512 American. That large program is called the “Ten Supercar Blast” and it gives the child 3 miles of driving in ten cars that are picked from the following list:

Lamborghini Gallardo
Ferrari California/F430
Porsche 911 Turbo
Audi R8
Aston Martin Vantage
Jaguar F-Type R
BMW i8
Nissan GT-R
Chevrolet Camaro ZL1
Lotus Exige 350S
Lotus Elise
Porsche Boxster
Subaru Impreza

For those wondering, TrackDays has a long list of programs for adults that start in the same basic price range, but the adult packages are more elaborate and more involved, so many of them are more expensive. However, if you and your younger child want to hit the track in the world’s top performance cars, this is a remarkable program.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
