BMW 8 Series Frozen Black Edition Exudes Class

The folks in Munich have introduced yet another special edition in the Japanese market, and this time the BMW 8 series is on the receiving end of this special treatment.

It looks like the Bavarian automaker is focusing most of its attention on the Japanese market. BMW Japan recently introduced a circuit-only offering- the M2 CS Racing– ahead of the global debut of the next-gen BMW 2 Series. The folks in Munich are now treating the Japanese market with yet another extravagant special edition, and this time, the BMW 8 series is on the receiving end of this special treatment.

The automaker has launched its all-new BMW 8 Series Frozen Black Editions in Japan. The special editions derive their moniker from BMW’s Frozen Black paint scheme. With its murdered-out styling, the ultra-exclusive model range truly distinguishes itself. The all-black treatment is limited to BMW’s 8 Series Coupe (G15) and Grand Coupe (G16) models.

Almost every surface of the two luxury sedans flaunts a lush and rich black color scheme. This includes the company’s signature kidney grille, tailpipes, 20-inch light-alloy style 728M rims, and even the M Sport brake calipers. The cabin has also been subjected to a similar treatment, including the Marino leather upholstery, M Sport seats, and BMW Individual piano black trim and Alcantara roof liner. A Bower and Wilkins Diamond surround sound system is also part of the Frozen Black Edition package.

The Frozen Black Editions are only available on the 840i trim, which means both models are powered by a turbocharged 3-liter powerplant. The company’s inline-six motor can produce 355 HP of maximum power and 369 lb-ft of peak torque in its factory tune. BMW opened the order banks for these limited production offerings on June 30th.

The company has announced that it will only manufacture 15 examples of the Gran Coupe Frozen Black Edition, whereas the production run of its ultra-exclusive two-door model will be limited to just five units. The Coupe version of the Frozen Black Edition received a $135,385 (Â¥ 15 million) price tag, whereas the Gran Coupe variant was priced at $136,288 (Â¥15.1 million). Customers opting for the 8 Series Gran Coupe Frozen Black Edition will also get an electric panoramic glass roof.
