BMW 2002 Honda Engine Swap

Instagram-documented BMW 2002 restoration proves anything is possible when you’re determined enough.

There are engine swaps and then there’s the type of build that blows you away with their level of attention to detail and fabrication. Take for instance Noe_Klasse’s BMW 2002 build that he is documenting on Instagram. Though the project is not yet complete, the builder has posted up over 500 photos documenting his BMW 2002 restoration. The old bimmer is getting a Honda F20C engine transplant, which judging from the photos is highly elaborate, to say the least.

Of course, performing an engine swap on classic 2002 is nothing new. These old, boxy German coupes takes well to the addition of more power, and there have been all sorts of 2002s over the years that have benefited from larger, more powerful engines. However, the most common swaps usually involve more powerful engines from other BMWs. With a Honda engine, this is one build that will definitely get under the skin of purists. In this case, the owner of the BMW decided to use a Honda F20C 4-cylinder, which despite its humble origins is actually a pretty exotic engine. The F20C was used in JDM-spec S2000 roadsters and pumps out around 250-hp, an impressive number for a rather small 2.0-liter engine.

Of course, getting the Honda motor to fit in the vintage BMW’s engine bay is quite a feat of engineering, as illustrated very well by Noe_Klass’s Instagram posts. Not only does he have beautiful photos of the extensive fabrication, he even puts up design sketches and layouts that show the intense amount of work and effort that is being spent on the build.

Of course, all that work is paying off, with stunning results so far. I mean, take a look at the before and after shots of the engine. The gold-colored, ceramic-coated headers look like pieces of art in the overhead photo of the engine bay. Likewise the mint green color the builder chose for the car suits the whole project very well, especially when set off with the gold accents of the custom fabricated parts.

But don’t take out word for it, head on over to Noe_Klass’s Instagram page to see for yourself. This is one project that we can’t wait to see finished.
