Kit Car Makes Bentley $250,000 Cheaper

You can trick at least a few people with this cheap fake Bentley.

Hopefully DJ Zinc, who wrote those lyrics for MTV’s “Pimp My Ride,” has invested his earnings well. If so, a Bentley might still be within reach — especially if he’s willing to get a little creative with this one-of-a-kind coupe. And you’ll never believe where we found it — yep, you guessed it: Craigslist.

If you’re thinking the words “kit car” are usually reserved for Pontiac Fierro-derived Lamborghinis and replica Porsches built from VW bugs, it’s time to add the Bentley Continental GT to your list. This beast isn’t sporting an air-cooled four-banger, though — it’s got 550 horsepower.

For Your Crew, Not From Crewe

Crewe is a place in Britain, which is in Europe. They make Bentleys there. This car, which admittedly does its best impression of the British executive express, is registered in Florida. Perhaps its owner felt it would be more attractive to car buyers in Atlanta, though, since that’s where it’s listed.

The impressive Craigslist ad explains that this car is a complete one-off, though it does use an SN95 Mustang chassis with upgraded suspension, rear end, and exhaust. The motor appears to be Ford’s modular 4.6-liter V8 force-fed by a Procharger supercharger. It actually produces power that’s in the same range as Bentley’s V8.

Smoothness and refinement, you say? Something’s got to give for a couple hundred grand.

Oh, and speaking of cost-cutting, the interior features Bentley’s recognizable diamond-quilted leather, and what must be the world’s cheapest Breitling timepiece.

Take it from the seller: “If you want a car that’s fun to drive and reliable that people will want to take pictures of you in and not laugh at you, then this is the car for you.” At least half of that statement, we suspect, could be very accurate.
