Aston Martin DB9 Is the Perfect Midnight Run Car

By -

Forget all those track-day supercars and high-strung exotics. The car you want for a midnight run comes from England.

Even if you haven’t been dreaming about driving a V12 Aston Martin DB9, it’s a car that deserves to be on your bucket list. In this case, as Marcus Vandenberg of Roads Untraveled suggests, meet your hero. “The DB9 is a GT car, plain and simple. If you want to take your lady out for dinner or just go and have a great night and show up to a place in style, this car has so much presence,” Vandenberg said.

Aston Martin DB9

The 2007 Aston Martin DB9 came with a 449-hp 5.9L V12 that produces 420 lb-ft of twist, which is sent to the rear wheels via a traditional six-speed automatic. Paddle shifters add to the feeling of control, and allow you to drop a gear or two easily. All the better to hear that sultry V12. Marcus does exactly what everyone who gets behind the wheel of a V12 Aston Martin should do: lots and lots of pulls. Not crazy triple digit pulls, but window-down, drop a gear, and enjoy the sounds. Those are the sounds of an engine that won’t be as common in a few short years.

Marcus mentions the excellent outward visibility of the DB9, which is something most supercars and exotics aren’t known for. It’s something that helps make the DB9 ideal for a drive on the town. When you’re carving up a mountain road the view out the back and rear three-quarters is of little consequence, but when you want to go for a midnight run through the town you’ll be well served by a car you can see out of.

When he was younger he describes seeing an Aston Martin DB9 for the first time, and being absolutely smitten with the car. Though he had some reservations about meeting one of his heroes, one look at the smile on his face tells you the answer: meet your heroes, you might be disappointed, but probably not if it’s a V12 Aston Martin.
