BMW's Mario Theissen Sees Importance of Diffuser Issue

Mario Theissen admits the critical nature of the diffuser ruling and also confirms that BMW has been
developing their own option just in case they are ruled legal.

"We need a level playing field as soon as possible."

He wouldn't be saying that if he was one of the top 3 teams right now.

I was convinced that this was going to go Brawn, Toy and Wil's way a week ago. Now I am not so sure. The big boys are really getting behind the idea that the double decker diffusers are illegal. The hearing is turning into one of the biggest things in F1 history.

CRAZY DRAMA!!

If they rule them illegal it will send a huge negative message to any of the "small" guys looking to enter the sport. As in, don't bother us with your engineering excellence if you aren't one of the big three.

Seems they've forgotten already they are only months departed from major league and team sponsors bailing. Now the "little" guys, with Brawn at the forefront, are proving you don't to have the massive budgets of McLaren, Ferrari, et al in order to field ridiculously competitive cars within the rules.

Besides, if the stewards can decide four days after a race to assess penalties, change the finish order, etc. and it STICKS --- why hasn't their decision that the diffusers are legal also stuck?

They are bound by rule to hear the appeal on the diffuser issue.

Either it is against the rules or not. I would hope that the size of the team or sponsor pressure would play little or no role in the decision-making process.

That might be little more than a fantasy though.

I'm with you. If the appeal passes and the diffusers are ruled illegal after all, I'll lose even more respect for F1. This season has been AWESOME so far and I want to see it stay that way.
