The Americana Manhasset 7th annual Concours d’Elegance
Sunday, October 23, 2011
The Concours d’Elegance has grown into one of the East Coast’s premier luxury car events, featuring more than 200 privately owned cars that compete for Best in Class and Best in Show titles. The theme for this year’s event is “Speed & Beauty.” Teamspeed.com was very proud to be a partner of this magnificent event and we would like to thank all those that came out and we hope you had a wonderful day. Thank you again to our friends at The Amerciana Manhasset for again including us in this spectacular gathering.
In keeping with the theme “Speed & Beauty” , the show highlighted truly exceptional cars including the 1932 Franay Bodied J 446 Duesenburg, once driven by Queen Marie of Yugoslavia, 1953 Bentley R type Franay bodied Fastback, a 1978 Aston Martin V8 Vantage Fliptail Coupe with 6.3 liter engine, a 1957 300 SL Mercedes Benz Gulwing, 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB, 1969 512 S Ferrari, and many more.
This year Ercole Spada was the guest of honor. Mr. Spada is a noted automotive design engineer and has worked with world-renowned design firms including Zagato and Ghia. His designs include models for Aston Martin, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Lamborghini, Ford, BMW, Fiat, and the I.DE.A. Institute. Mr. Spada designed some of the most iconic cars of the 20th century including the Aston Martin DB4 GTZ, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta and the Giulietta Coda Tronca, and the BMW 7 and 5 series. In 2006, he established Spadaconcept, a design studio in Turin, Italy with Domiziano Boschi, Wojtek Sokolowski and his son Paolo Spada. Other international guests include Paolo Garella, an automotive design engineer consultant based in Turin, Italy.
Free to the public, this popular event is held at the Americana Shopping Mall in Manhasset, on the North Shore of Long Island. Visitors can shop with first-class luxury retailers, dine at fabulous restaurants and see some of the world’s most amazing cars. The Concours d’Elegance is a great day for the entire family.
To cap the day off was a charity raffle presented by Friends of Sunrise and Americana Manhasset and one lucky individual is now the proud owner of a 2011 Maserati GT Convertible, the grand prize, not a bad way to end a spectacular day on Long Island's Gold Coast.
