A snake in wine country...

As some of you may know, I went to Sonoma, CA for 4th of July weekend for a family reunion. Since BigE lives out there, I made plans to meet up with him when I had a little free time. He was gracious enough to spend about an hour with me and take me out for a spin in his buddy's 690hp/650tq 504 CID Superformance Cobra.

Now, 690 rwhp is a lot of power for just about any car. In one that weighs ~2500 lbs, it's an absolute monster! The raw acceleration this car has is astounding. It honestly defies logic. As soon as Eric floored it from 30 MPH, I started laughing uncontrollably. The sensations were so extreme, I couldn't do anything but laugh at the insanity of it all.

Since I brought my camera gear with me, we decided to duck down a little dirt road at a vineyard to take some photos. I figured I'd share them here.

First off, a few from Eric's beautiful home:

And now on to the vineyard:

Thanks for looking!

Its a tight squeeze to say the least. The seat is set up for a person about 6'1" and I am 6'8". Nothing wrong with a little wind in the hair when driving

Driving this beast on a regular basis confirms how much I want one myself. I know that I want guardsman blue with white stripes and will definitely keep it old-school competition looking with 15" tires and white letter goodyear racing style tires. This one has drag radials on the back so it hooks decently but does not handle all that great. 690 hp is bordering on too much for this car, but it is easy to modulate the power as it has a ton of TQ, a long-throw throttle and clutch that has a real smooth take-up. The clutch is pretty stiff though and can get tiring. Flooring it at 30 mph in 3rd gear results in a surge to 100mph in just a few seconds, grab 4th and floor it and the 100-130 surge takes about 2 to 3 seconds. Its absolutely unreal.

I have been the the local Superformance dealer a few times and the last time I went in they had their "tall guy" seat installed and the fit was much better. The pedal box is extremely long on those cars so leg room is not much of a problem. The tall guy seat is about 4" lower and has cutouts where it meets up with the roll bar so it goes back another 2" to 3"

Great shots Alex. Can you please PM me the link so I can download some high res pics.
