Porsche revives the classic Targa look
Our Teamspeed spies bring us something special this morning! If you are a fan of the classic 911 Targa design that was presented in 1965, but disappeared out of the Porsche program when the 964 was replaced by the 993 with a larger sliding glass roof, it’s now time to start saving up again.
Disguised as a Convertible, this Targa prototype almost slipped pass our spies without further notice but the sharp eyed teamspeed shooters realized what was passing, and quickly managed to get some revealing photos. We can clearly see the removable center roof section and the Targa roll-bar.
It’s not clear yet if the 991 Targa only will be available with four-wheel drive as the current 997 version is (Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S), or if you also could order it as a rear-wheel drive version.
Stay tuned for more soon!

This is too cool. Apparently the Targa will be based on the Cab structure as it appears the rear section will fold down rearward.
Porsche will sell every one of these that they can build. I'm sure there will be those that still prefer the full convertible, but I see the Cab numbers taking a big hit to the Targa. I think the Targa will also sway Coupe buyers who don't want a full convertible, but like the idea of the targa top as opposed to the larger sunroof. I wonder how this design affects weight and stiffness?

I was thinking the same, but then this car has the same moving engine/tonneau cover as the cab. Why would they use that piece with it's added weight if the rear section was fixed glass?
