McLaren 650S Takes On Aventador LP700-4

The Aventador has been known to be the king of many blocks, and the new kid, the 650S wants to show it a thing or two. Clearly in Mexico, this race seems to defy what logic would tell you about performance. All-wheel drive is known to be the advantage on the street, being able to hook consistently on a variety of surfaces, such as asphalt, concrete, and the opponent’s hopes and dreams if they are just propelled by one axle.

Launch control, especially that made by McLaren, seems to have changed the fortunes of those racing from a dig, rather than a roll. In the two races seen in the video below, the Lamborghini does still have the initial lead, but watch as the 650S closes in with surprising pace. If this means one thing, it’s that heavy AWD systems might eventually give way to ultra advanced traction and launch control systems. That would free up more available power to the wheels, make cars more economical, and even, perhaps, safer.

Is the 650S another example of showing the dinosaurs how speed can be intelligently achieved? Perhaps, but I still enjoy raw-brutal power.
