Khobar is a pretty decent place
Bahrain is only a 30 minute drive! Make sure you try getting tickets for this months Formula 1 race!

try whatsapp. it lets you send texts and pics over 3g or wifi and is totally free once you bought it (~80 cents). Thats what I am using at home, but also now from Seoul back to Germany.

and good luck and lots of fun over there, I bet it will be a blast!
how long do you plan to stay there? forever or "just" a couple of years?

I work in Saudi and commute from Bahrain everyday, unless you did your homework you're in for a big shock, most expats who work in saudi live in Bahrain for many reasons but mainly because most cant adapt to the culture. If you happen to know a group or make friends with people who live at Aramco town you're going to have some sort of social life, but thats pretty much it. Forget about meeting girls unless you want your weiner chopped off (I kid I kid), if you wanna party head across the bridge to our side of town (Bahrain).

By any chance you're going to be working for 966 motors?

Best of Luck mate.

Thanks man. I got it when I went to Costa Rica for a couple weeks. I'm actually thinking about how to get a local iPhone so I can use data and whatnot like a regular saudi person.

I totally understand. He was talking about a particular group of guys that we both know who did a particular rally. That was their team name that people gave them. It was a term of endearment.

I have done my research and still expect serious culture shock. The guys have a house for me in a compound but I am not opposed to moving to Bahrain if it turns out that would make me more comfortable over there.

Thanks for the input everyone!
