I don't think anyone who hasn't heard of it can comprehend just how awesome it is. This is one of those threads everyone will be searching for in 3-6 months.

MeanMachine 12-09-2008 01:22 PM

I can't register because it says I need a postal code from the UK. Any help or way around this? It would only allow me to select United Kingdom when I was registering.

You can use "W4 4LZ" as your zip code (Porsche in London :)). Credit to Dave_S for that one!

I'll take credit for this thank you very much :)
It's the greatest thing since sliced milk, I tell you.

Zorro 12-09-2008 04:39 PM

Ok, I installed it and everything ...

why is it awesome?

I can search for music and listen to it? that's it?

edit - oh. I see. Awesome.

edit again - holy crap. Rep forever.

No Rob Dougan music???

Dave S 12-09-2008 04:59 PM

Haha nice post Zorro. Yes, it is awesome. Basically, it's completely legal and you can listen to all music you want. This company will be big.

Bronto 12-09-2008 05:11 PM

I just found a bunch of Coldplay songs I've never heard before. An old album and some EPs :)
I'm really amazed at how it streams, I get no buffering what so ever. Just like clicking on a song in iTunes! I hope they're working the music companies to release some more stuff soon.

Alzilla 12-09-2008 05:13 PM

Very interesting concept! I think I could have fun with this! Not sure if I like it more than my old system of just pirating music I like, but at the very least, this will help me find more music I like!

Zorro 12-09-2008 05:13 PM

How do I share a playlist??? Just "copy the http link"?

Zorro 12-09-2008 05:20 PM

Now is there a way to transfer my playlist to my iPod? Or does it have to stay on the puter?

I like that it brings up a playlist from an artist or one song. From there I can see all the records and singles published by the artist, I can also see what CD the song came from ... useful when it's a "best of".
For instance, I was looking at some AC/DC stuff, found a Buddha Bar cover of Thunderstruck, which brought me to the whole CD of AC/DC covers by Buddha Bar. The music's pretty terrible TBO, but I would have never found it.

I don't think the songs exist as files on your puter. You're only streaming them in the program.

Don't forget you have to use the uk-proxy weblink.

The thing is, In Sweden you need to get invited but not in the uk. Hence the uk-proxy.

eshaun 12-09-2008 05:46 PM

awesome. you rock!

Russ 12-09-2008 07:49 PM

very VERY cool... thanks

Craigger 12-09-2008 08:01 PM

Perfect! anyone know how to get the explicit version of the songs? I have only found the censored versions (not that big of a deal really)

goo news mac users - your quickkeys work in this just like itunes

Jeff_NJ 12-09-2008 10:21 PM

why is there such a large chache then?

From cnet:
"The quality is also very good. Spotify uses Ogg Vorbis to stream music at around 160kbps. Not CD quality, but certainly as good as many DAB radio stations. In order to save bandwidth, a streamed song is downloaded to your computer in a cache. That means you won't transfer the data again if you want to listen to a song over and over."

So it's sort of there on your puter, but you won't be able to grab them. The point of Spotify is to share music with friends without having to store it somewhere. Just start the app at work and create some nice playlists and share them with your buddies.

Dave S 12-10-2008 02:48 PM

For the U.S users. You might want to go to preferences and add a U.K proxy. I've heard that they might do a check to see if you're in the U.K or not. Just google Uk proxy and you'll find one.

vtgts300kw 12-10-2008 07:50 PM

It gets held up when I enter my details and then click the button.

Any ideas?

MeanMachine 12-11-2008 02:28 AM

For those who love Trance house music, chillout , techno/electro checkout my playlist.

Dave S 12-11-2008 05:06 AM

So you can't sign in?
Seems weird. Try logging in to the site and check your preferences (and see that you actually can get in to your account ie correct pw). Then check your firewall, that's probably the problem.

Yeah I did and so far I'm loving it! :)

jox 12-11-2008 06:49 AM

I miss a minimized version that always stays on top, like iTunes or Winamp. Pain in the ass to always open it up and browse.

That's even more of a PITA. Change out my entire desktop whenever I want to change song? Here, please accept this medal of super cleverness!

:cool2:

Craigger 12-11-2008 07:01 AM

picky picky.

Apple Keyboard functions FTW.

(and before you say "what if Im looking for a specific song?" Quicksilver hotkeys FTW)

jox 12-11-2008 07:04 AM

There's nothing you could say that would make me want to have a mini player any less . . .

If you have to rely on 3rd party apps to make another one work the way you want it - major fail. That's like marrying a woman because her sister supposedly gives great blowjobs.

strebo 12-12-2008 10:14 AM

Cry for you is an amazing track, trust me you should see the girls dancing to it on a Mangusta yacht in St Tropez.
