Ok u Gun owners

I need some suggestions on purchasing a hand gun. Its primary use is for family protection/security. Any suggestions/recommendation is welcomed. Thanks.

Glock 17 or 19 for self/car, and a shotgun for the house. Another good idea for the house is a dog.

Thats the best for basics. I would opt 223/556 in house IMO better then shotgun.

Still on the fence about it, but do you guys really think a long gun/shotgun is the best choice for close quarters/in the home? Think they may be better as standoff weapons. Can't beat the mobility of a handgun around corners.
