Cardinals and Albert Pujols End Discussions With No Contract

This is total insanity.

The word is that it is not years on the contract that are the sticking point.

Rather, it is about the amount of money he will be paid per year.

Are the Cardinals crazy! The rumor is that he was not even offered top 5 money.

This guy is the best player in the game. The Cardinals really needed to get this deal done.

Maybe he will go to the Angels. I can only dream.

Pujols and Cardinals Fail to Reach Deal

Dana what would you pay him? I would have a hard time paying him more then $35 million for 10. Now I do not know what he is looking for but if its above that I could care less how good he is. I can only hope my Mets get their house in order for when he hits the market, which he should if he is a man of his word.

And I am sure the douchkees will gladly pay him 40+ million/10 since they are going to suck this year.

I would not give him a 10-year deal. I don't think you will ever see that again in baseball.

But that does not seem to be the issue. It appears to be merely the amount per year.

Right now, they are offering him the type of money that would allow A-Rod, Joe Mauer and CC Sabathia to be paid significantly more than him per year. That is insulting.

If A-Rod is the highest paid per year, then you pay him $1 more than that for a reasonable period.

He is the best player in baseball. To offer him less than fat ass Sabathia is a joke.

The Yankees likely will not show interest. They are pretty happy with Tex at first and Pujols won't change positions.

obviously I'm a cards fan, i do live in St. Louis

I hope he stays, but I heard that the top 7 salary teams already have Mega-million deals ect, yanks are not interested. who is gonna pay the money?

and a 10 year deal is ridiculous

I agree, 10-year deals will never happen again.

The Angels have money and a big need. But now they can't even negotiate with him until the season is over.

That is what frustrates me.

How can you say the 10 year contract will never happen again when 31 year old jayson Werth just got a 7 year $126 million deal and is not even close to being a top 10 player in baseball, let alone #1. And saying the Yankees are not out for Pujols because of Texeira is joke. They will make it work after they do not make the playoffs this year.

The Jason Werth deal was the most criticized deal in the past 10 years. It was a mistake.

But 7 years is not 10 and Werth isn't expecting $30 million plus a year.

Also, his contract includes a pretty lucrative buy-out for ownership after only 4-years. Read the fine print buddy.

Where would the Yankees play Tex? Both Albert and Tex are gold glove first basemen. Who will move to make room?

Would you pay Albert $30 million for him to be a DH and waste his instincts in the field?

And Tex's contract is WAY to big to trade.

The Yankees will not pursue Pujols.

Not too 'asinine' for the best player in the game and arguably one of the best hitters ever!

The spotlight is off of Pujols for the moment now that Wainwright is out for the year.

It has been a bad week for the Cardinals.
