For All we'll drive Chelsea Closing In On Frank Rijkaard - Report Chelsea reportedly have an informal agreement with Frank Rijkaard to take over as manager after Guus Hiddink steps down in the summer, according to the News of the World. Hiddink replaced Luiz Felipe Scolari last month on what is believed to be a temporary basis due to his commitments with the Russian national team. The Dutchman is expected to leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the season and the British tabloid now claims that former Barcelona boss Rijkaard will step into the Chelsea hotseat and may indeed work with Hiddink initially. Quoting a ‘source’, the paper states, “Guus and Frank have had long discussions about the job in the last few weeks. It has been informally agreed Frank will step in during the summer. “[Chelsea owner, Roman] Abramovich wants Hiddink to complete Russia’s World Cup campaign — but there will then be the option for him to return to Chelsea and work in tandem with Rijkaard.” Of course, Rijkaard has worked with Hiddink before when the Chelsea boss managed Holland and has long been linked with a move to west London. The former Ajax and AC Milan star is available having left Barcelona at the end of last season. During his time in charge of the Catalan side he helped the club claim two league titles and the Champions League, before stepping down to be replaced by Josep Guardiola. Gill Clark, Goal.com |
