The Classic Porsche 911 Picture Thread! http://media.il.edmunds-media.com/po...113111_717.jpg The Classic Porsche 911 Picture Thread! For all 911s 1963-1989 We have picture threads for the 964, 993, 997 etc. Why not have one for all of the classic Porsche 911s? Ranging from 1963 to 1989 (before being replaced by the Type 964), the classic 911 was quite possibly the most exciting time for the 911 in history. It debuted on September 11th, 1963 as the Type 901. The name was quickly changed to 911 after allegations from Peugeot claiming only they can sell a 90X designated car in France. From 1963-1974 we had the period of the beautiful and classic long hood cars. From 1974-1989, there was the era of the impact bumper cars. Crash regulations made the new bumpers inevitable, and the bumpers were so successfully integrated into the design they remained all the way up until the 911 was replaced with the 964. The era of the classic 911 brought gorgeous and sought after cars like the 911 R, the 2.7 RS, the Carrera RSR Turbo, the 2.8 RSR, the 930 with its iconic tea tray and whale tail spoiler, and many, many more! As a tribute to the original Porsche 911, post all of your classic Porsche 911 photos here! http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...neron_2005.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4057/...b6ebefc6_b.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4152/...fdf1a44e_b.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4004/...f61e6a63_b.jpg |
http://autoweek.com/storyimage/CW/20...1.jpg&maxW=630 Steve McQueen Porsche 911 hammers at $1.375 million during RM Monterey auction "Setting a new world record for a Porsche 911 sold at auction, Steve McQueen's 1970 Porsche 911S went to a new owner for a cool $1.375 million during RM Auctions' Monterey event last night. The 911 wasn't just owned by McQueen; it also featured prominently at the beginning of the film LeMans as the lead character, played by McQueen, drives through France reflecting on the realities of racing. Hagerty's Rob Sass and I checked out the car Wednesday night at the RM Auctions preview; be sure to watch the video for a closer look at the car, and stay tuned to our Pebble Beach page for more Monterey Penninsula auction action." |

That red 356 is just perfect. Here is Janis Joplin's 1965 Porsche 356c Cabriolet: Janis Joplin's psychedelic painted 1965 Porsche 356c Cabriolet - YouTube BTW: I thought her friends all drove Porsches, and she wanted the Lord to buy her something more boring? Guess she had as good a taste in cars as she had talent :) |
This thread is certainly off to a good start! I guess we could include the 356 too! Janis Joplin had a great 356, thanks for the video. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4025/...273ccd80_b.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4015/...a1b9ec50_b.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4141/...824869e6_b.jpg |
