The Porsche 969. A Prototype form the 80's that Never Made it.

(Post edited clean of other two prototypes...)

You probably have never heard of the Porsche 969. No, not the 959, the 969.

The Porsche 969

I'll let the pages of a magazine provide you with the details

Today, we see parts of the 969 living on in many Porsches to come after it. For example, the 4WD and styling in the 993 Turbo, the PDK in the 997s, the water cooling in the 996/997 generations, and the air suspension in the Panamera. Of the 16 prototypes created, 15 of them were destroyed, and the where-abouts of the remaining prototype is unknown.

I managed to find a gallery of some 969 images. They were very hard to come across, and these are the only known images ever taken of the 969.

The 969 was never a Porsche, it was built by Rinspeed on existing 911s. I've only seen 1 in real life, and they're hideous garbage. They don't have AWD or water-cooling or PDK.

The rest of the information is lifted straight from Wikipedia and has way too many factual errors in it. All that nonsense was probably written by somebody with a wild imagination.

I've never been hyper-critical of any of your posts, but more or less everything you posted here is nonsense you found on other sites.

EDIT: Total911 article was added AFTER I made this post. It is not nonsense, but not entirely factual either.

Images fixed.

You sure about that Zamirz? I'm not sure all of the facts are correct in this post, and I was awaiting what you had to say about it all given your knowledge of Porsche. I found multiple sources supporting some of these facts though.

I know the Rinspeed 969 that you're speaking of, but that's not the one I'm talking about.

Carrara your wiki fact writing privileges have been revoked

Post edited clean of unreliable information, and is now devoid of the 989 and Varrera.

Can a mod please change the thread title to "The Porsche 969. A Prototype form the 80's that Never Made it.", or something along those lines?

ZAMIRZ Jan 23, 2011 12:36 AM

LOL, Carrara, did you just edit out the photo of the Rinspeed 969? Because it was there intitially...

I've gotta run, but I'll get back to this post tomorrow when I have some time. The Total911 article you posted has some truth to it, but there are some key things in there which are flat-out assumptions by the writer.

:hilarious: Yes, I did. I realized that that had nothing to dowith Porsche, and assumed you posted before you saw the fixed images. Anyway, I guess you found out about a "new" Porsche?
