Question about the 944

Hey guys, I might be picking up a 944 for a track toy. How are the cars? I've heard a lot of good and a lot of bad things about them. Also, how big a deal is doing a crankshaft position sensor on them? I've got one being offered to me for cheap and it's in decent shape, it just needs the sensor to run apparently.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

they're fast track cars when they running right...prepare to crack open your wallet

944s are amazing on the track. The cars are very reliable, but the clutches are a pain in the butt to change.
The crankshaft position sensor is very easy to change out, and you should jump on this car if everything else is good.
I really love the 944s and they are the most balanced cars I have ever driven.

Get an S2. I used to have one as a track car and it was a blast, cheap and reliable. Good luck!

You can easily spend 2 to 3 times the value of the car in maintenance and other small odds and ends.

And yes, get an S2, they're the least likely to suck your wallet dry.

The 924/944/968's 50/50 weight bias make it a great track toy.
The 968 and/or S2 offer better torque on the low end, thus better
for accelerating out of the corner. However, being addicted to boost, I much
prefer the 951 aka 944 Turbo. With a $4-5K investment in the engine it's
not too tough to get a 2.5T to produce 350-400rwhp.

Thanks for the replies guys, I'm gonna go check that 944 out and if it looks alright I'll pick it up.

mwc951 - That car looks insane, any more pics??
