R.I.P.

Horrific accident VERY early on in the race, and puts a huge cloud over the entire event.

I don't know why the car jolted like that and then there's clear oversteer and I guess he tried to correct it but with no avail. Very sad and the contact must've been very bad as the speed he was going wasn't that high...

RIP

LeMans you claim another life, 25 pilots gone :(

Weird that he died in the accident, it didn't seem that fast. RIP.

From the video it appears it should have been a routine spin. He got a bit of air on the rumble strips, the back end came around, he steered left to correct it, and then the tires regained their contact patch and flung him head on into the armco barrier.

He likely would have been okay, but the armco didn't flex because there was a tree behind the part he hit, and he evidently went from 100mph to a dead stop instantly. Unfortunately no passive safety device can protect against that sort of impact.

RIP indeed, and ironically in the past two days as well VLN Racer Wolf Silvester died of a heart attack mid race, and a Formula V driver was killed at Lime Rock Park as well.

To top it all of Dan Wheldon's birthday was yesterday...

RIP
