“No Contract” as Deadline Looms for NJ F1 Race

East Coast F1 fans looking forward to a race in their back yard might not want to get their hopes up. Despite all promotional around the race— Sebastian Vettel took some journalists around the circuit back in June—the Guardian is reporting a Grand Prix along the Hudson is light years away from a done deal.

Regarding the American contingent, F1 Supremo Bernie Ecclestone has said “they don’t have a contract,” and stated the investors have missed their marks on getting everything in place to host the event. With a deadline to set the 2013 schedule looming on September 28th, the lack of any formal agreement between F1 and the American hopefuls makes the possibility of a race seem dire. Of course, there’s always plenty of drama—on and off the track—regarding anything to do with F1, and we should remember that the prospect of a Texas race was on thin ice at several points.

With a $150 million deal on the line, it’d make sense that each side would want the race to become reality. But since construction is already underway in the Garden State, and F1 has other suitors—Mexico, South Africa—lurking around the globe, the American investors will hardly be arguing from a position of strength. Head over to The Guardian for more details, and watch Sebastian Vettel lap the proposed course in the video below.
