Raikkonen to quit F1 for rallying - report Kimi Raikkonen looks likely to quit formula one to launch a full time rallying foray in 2010, the Finnish sports magazine Veikkaaja claims. The 2007 world champion has recently contested three minor events in Finland and Italy, and will make his world rally debut in Finland at the end of this month. It is suggested that while top teams can contractually forbid their drivers from participating in dangerous pursuits, Ferrari is keen to let the 29-year-old develop his rallying hobby in order to make room for Fernando Alonso at the team next year. A friend of Raikkonen is quoted by Veikkaaja as saying: "Kimi doesn't talk about formula one anymore. He just talks about rally." so Alonso will have a pretty easy transfer |
Beat me to it. I have to say I'm not too surpised to hear this. Raikkonen's head hasn't been into F1 at all lately and you can see that he's not really trying. I was a big Raikkonen fan, but his lack of emotion and personality makes it very difficult. With that said, if Alonso goes to Ferrari, he will be a huge force. He has great car development ability and is still one, if not the quickest guy on the grid. Depending on where F1 is next year, this will be interesting to watch. |
I'm not surprised by this either. Hopefully we will see Alonso in a red suit next year. |
So what's the real story here? Couldn't Räikkonen score a seat til next season or did he actually make this decision by himself? |

I just don't see Kimi as a rally driver. I know most Finnish people are practically born into rallying, but Kimi hasn't been doing particularly well in any of the rallies he's competed in, afaik. |
Maybe he could host a tv show? With that vivid personality, it'll be a hit! ...or he could work at a suicide hot line, trying to convince people on why life is worth living. But with that monotonous voice, a life in politics is perhaps more suited. |
wow |
Not to plagiarize, but.... Yawn. |
