Hamilton: "I am as good as Senna"

Hamilton: "I am as good as Senna". :dizzy:

I wonder why we did not see this on any UK web site?

Sport.de claims that in talking to journalists before the Japanese GP, Lewis Hamilton proclaimed:

"I know I am as good as Ayrton Senna" apparently stunning even seasoned British journalists present (though presumably not Peter Windsor) "don't you know I'm the best?"

"I can tell immediately where the line with the most grip is". Mocking Massa he added that being good on a wet track is not automatic for Brazilians and that Felipe in such conditions "cannot find the limit"...

So what if he said that? What is your point? We are supposed to be upset and dislike him because he says that he is better than Senna? I admire Senna as much as anyone, but it is not like comparing yourself to him - or even saying you are better than him - is sacreligious. Michael Schumacher crashed Senna. Why doesn't the foreign press like to remember that?

I have met Lewis personally twice now. On one occasion I spent nearly an hour chatting with him one-on-one. He is NOT the person portrayed in the press. Does he have a big mouth some times? Sure. But hell, these are race car drivers. They don't exactly go to charm school.

Would you want a world champion who wasn't confident?

Nobody's perfect.

my point is that he has a lot yet to prove to even be considered close to what senna was. comments like these are almost as retarded as someone who is 22 years old writing an autobiography.

if you weren't so infatuated with him you could look at this objectively and laugh like the rest of us.

"I am the closest thing to Senna in the current drivers line-up," is what he meant to say. It's a little pre-mature for him to make such claims.

Dana, its the fact that he said he is as good as Senna when he hasn't proven himself a champion.

Sure he has immense talent and of course will be in the history books. But come on, gimme a break.

Compare their helmets....

It's good to be confident, but to say that you´re as good as a three time world champion is a little bit to much for me.....since Lewis doesn't even has one yet.

never ever in his life !!!!!!!

Read the book "Inside the mind of the Grand Prix driver" by Christopher Hilton, and his comments will make sense. If faith can move mountains, the degree of self-belief it takes to make it to F1 would knock a planet out of its orbit. They all think they're as good as Senna, or they couldn't do their jobs.

I heard a comment from David Coulthard (of all people) getting snippy that the British press were so in love with Lewis, and commented that he was every bit as fast as Lewis, he just didn't have the car.

There is a class of professions where the kind of humility that most of us wish to be perceived as possessing is not an option, and being an F1 driver is one of them.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Very well spoken.

I know that I am a big Lewis fan and that I am not objective at all. Then again, I am not an FIA Steward and I am not a debate moderator. I am a fan. And as a fan I want to cheer for my guy.

If you tifosi want unopposed glory for your team, head on over to F-Chat.

I still love you guys though.
