Beginner Camera Idea's I know there have been many threads on this, but I had trouble finding one's that had my idea's in mind. So I want to spend around $600 on a new camera. I have really been inspired by all the excellent photographers here on TS, and thought I should give it a try. I know a lot of you have your personal opinions on Nikon vs Canon, but I'm just looking for the best value. I hope to eventually buy better lenses and other attachments, so something that is versatile would be nice. Also anything I should be prepared for in terms of being ripped off? Is buying used a good idea? Anyway, thanks in advance for your opinions! |
There isn't anything wrong with buying used, so long as the person selling is reputable. Since you're in the Seattle area, check out Glazer's Camera in SLU. They have a good selection of used gear, and their staff is very knowledgable. Even better, you can rent gear from them. If you rent on a Friday afternoon, you don't have to turn it back until Monday morning and it's considered just a day rental. Since Canon & Nikon are very close in what they offer, renting both setups will give you the chance to play around with each to see which works best for you. |
My advice is to buy a Nikon D90. I sold my rig - which included 2 lenses, flash, memory, tripod, and a nice Tenba bag - for around $900. If you can find just a body and a 18-200 lens, you could easily get it for $600 or less. The D90 is a fantastic DSLR camera and will do whatever you need it to do. |
Thanks guys! I'll check them out |
