Quality camera with great optics! Where did you go Keeble & Shuchat in Palo Alto? They have some great beginner photo classes there as well.

Good choice MTK, thats the camera I got for my GF for Christmas, easy to use, and one of the best.

that's a good "beater" cam! :)

is your wife like my wife and doesn't give two sh*ts about electronics and cars, or does she appreciate them like and care for them like shoes and purses?

my wife's dad worked for mclaren engines, now works for Hemi and MoPar...
he has also owned/raced some of the finest vintage ferrari's and is building an original 550 spyder just finished a 356.... so it's safe to say she loooooves cars, it's in her blood, she def. got the car-bug!

she hates electronics tho!

I have a Leica Digilux 2.

http://www.porterselectronics.com/sh...uct/100068.jpg

They have great optics but the cameras are nothing more than Panasonix Lumix bodies. I only have mine because I have Leica M6, R6 and R4 bodies with some lenses so it's kind of a must have anything Leica thing. As far as image quality and features, the Canon SD870is is the shiznit. Absolutely LOVE the old school case though!

BTW, I just got my Leica back from Leica service, they had to replace the digital sensor under warranty and it took 4 months!

Great choice Knick!
