AT-Exotics R8 Content for all you V10 Fans!

Teamspeed Audi!

We recently completed two R8 V10 projects and would just like to share with you all some of the content from both builds as well as a little bit of information about us and what we do. The R8 owners were local to us and each wanted a custom built exhaust for their vehicle. Below are some photos as well as additional information on each project that we completed. I will note, we are currently in transition into our new shop and the photos and work shown below have been done in our temporary space. Please be on the lookout in the next month as we are moving into our new 8200 ft² shop April 1!!

Before we jump into the projects themselves, here is a little bit of background info for those of you wanting to know more about the R8 itself and its exhaust system. Audi designed the R8 5.2 slightly differently than Lamborghini did with the Gallardo in which the header and the catalytic converter are shared together in 1 piece. This is unfortunate as it means a cat by-pass (test pipe) cannot be used unless we were to build an entirely new header as well. Unlike the R8, the Gallardo runs a 2 piece header / cat allowing for an aftermarket test pipe to be installed in place of the factory cat. So far, there hasn't been an aftermarket header released for the R8, but that may change here in the near future!

Our first project received a 2.5" Non-Resonated X-Pipe. Like all of our projects, we guarantee OEM Fitment as we build all of our products off of the OEM Part itself. Because we did not remove the cats, the vehicle will NOT throw a check engine or malfunction light.

First step: Once the car was delivered we ran down what exactly we wanted to do, as well as planned for the disassembly of the rear end. As you may or may not know, the R8 Spyder rear end is slightly more complicated than its other half, the coupe.

Here at AT-Exotics, every component of the aftermarket exhaust is hand built. Whether it be welding, cutting, bending, or machining, we do it all ourselves to ensure 100% fitment and unmatched quality. Shown below is one of our in-house machined V-Band Fitting. This exhaust required 2 to be made.

Disassembly: Shown below, everything on the rear end has been removed up until the OEM exhaust and heat shield itself, including rear bumper, tail lights, crash support, and rear wing.
Attachment 144387

Disassembly: Here the factory airbox has been removed to reveal the exhaust below. As you can see, the factory cats and flex pipes are v-banded to the factory exhaust, which is now ready to be removed!!

Related? I think so! The R8 shares the same rear differential as the Gallardo, as well as several other components.

Below are a few more photos of everything removed and ready for re-installation!

Fitting: Working on getting exact fitment for our 2.5" X-Pipe. Fortunately, there is a lot of room to play with but getting perfect fitment is our goal.

Final Touches: New AT-Exotics Exhaust is installed and the R8 sure is happy! No lights, no problems!
Attachment 144392

Customer wanted his OEM chrome R8 wheels removed and supplied us with an identical set of OEM R8 Wheels, but coated in a black semi-gloss finish. We sure are happy with his decision!

Its a wrap! The R8 has been detailed and ready for delivery!

Now onto the second R8 project. This customer wanted a truly one-off exhaust, and specified he wanted it loud. Our solution: a 3" X-Pipe, a size we have never done in any exotic, but nonetheless, we knew exactly how it would sound; LOUD!

Disassembly: Same thing as before, nothing new.

OveR8ted? We sure dont think so!
Attachment 144396

Fabrication: Yep, thats right. 3" Stainless X-Pipe in the works!! In-House V-Bands up top as well.
Attachment 144397

Fitment: Will it fit? Sure did!
Attachment 144398

Fitment: AT-Exotics 3" Stainless X-Pipe installed into the OEM heatshield. This new exhaust will run much cooler than the factory box as well as shed some weight!!
Attachment 144399

Finish: Our X-Pipe sitting next to a Tubi V10 Exhaust removed from this same car. Weight savings of over 40 lbs!

All back together and ready for Delivery. Also, Stay tuned for the B8.5 S4 results soon!

For your viewing pleasure, here are 2 very short teaser clips from both projects. As you can hear, the two exhausts do give off slightly different sounds, and we love both!

Hi there. Lovely work.

Quick question, how or what did you use to paint the A pillar black?
