Am I missing something? There is nothing "8" about that car!

You can get a V10 in the A8 also.

The R8 production car is called that because it is inspired by the R8 prototype racecar, not because it has an 8 cylinder engine. Whether it has the V8, V10, or V12 TDI-its still an "R8". The real R10 is of course a V12 TDI that us now retired and I think Audi is just trying to keep it simple

BTW, Audi is planning an R4 car that will fit somewhere in between the TT and the R8. I don't think they plan on putting a 4 banger in it.
