Anyone try the Aprilia Tuono APRC

Kinda like it and wondering if anyone here tested one out...

MCN says

Aprilia’s new Tuono V4 R APRC has genuine superbike performance, advanced electronic rider aids, a MotoGP soundtrack and a real-world, roomy riding position. Could this be the ultimate real-world superbike?
Producing a claimed 167bhp, it’s more powerful than its closest super naked rivals, like the Ducati Streetfighter, KTM 990 Super Duke and Triumph Speed Triple. It’s a serious weapon on the track thanks to its balanced chassis, strong brakes, powerful engine, quickshifter, traction control and anti-wheelie. On the road it’s loads of fun when you turn the anti-wheelie off and setting the traction control high to deal with the unexpected, is a useful safety feature. You can be the first away from the traffic light GP too, if you use the electronic launch control. With a wide spread of smooth power and an impeccable throttle response it’s far less brutal then the V-twin Tuono of old. It’s also available without the APRC package for a grand less.

We don't have them in the states yet. I'm sure it's a great bike since it shares so much with the RSV4.

I always wanted one of the old ones as a huge fan of naked sportbikes with the ergos of a standard. 160hp, traction control, wheelie control, launch control, sounds like the recipe for the perfect streetbike.

Except the looks. Dammit Aprilia.

Looks much better that in the photos... but yes, it is not the best looking bike out there :(

Did not put much miles on it yet but for now I am extremely impressed!!! The bike is light at 183kg which to me makes power to weight ratio is ridicules (0.914hp/Kg). The different maps (Street/Race/Track) are great to have and characteristics are very noticeable between them. After installing the new pipes and CPU upgrade all three settings are slightly modified with about 7-10 hps extra to play with…

Seating is great but I think I will raise the handlebar a little… I am over 180cm and feel for a naked my riding position is a little on the aggressive side

Yeah, that first bike was the tough one… but then it was all good

mannnu81 04-08-2012 02:48 AM

cool.

vincentdds 04-12-2012 07:16 PM

It's cool but I like the look of the Ducati Streetfighter better.

Streetfighter for sure is a sexy looking bike.

I completely agree on looks...

I am confident that you will find the Duc SF more superior in looks, performance and engagements. Go ride one!

It has almost been a year now with the bike and I must say that I am not disappointed at all… and with the new map that was set with the exhaust system the bike is incredible (for what it is, a naked)
Mine has the optional APRC system, which I love… and find it very VERY close to the BMW system. Here is what it does;

APRC APRILIA PERFORMANCE RIDE CONTROL

This is the most significant among the new features of the Aprilia RSV4 Factory APRC SE, a technology platform that is one step above any other systems available in the market, not yet available on all racing bikes. The transfer of know-how from racing to production created an extremely sophisticated electronic management system that is intuitive and easy to use for everyone.
The APRC package uses an automotive inertial platform with two turn meters and two accelerometers that enable the ECU to track dynamic conditions and adjust engine control consequently. The rider can adjust any component of the APRC system independently at will.

ATC: the traction control system of the future
The ATC- Aprilia Traction Control undoubtedly is one of the greatest strengths of the APRC package. This is a fully innovative traction control system developed from an Aprilia patent, mainly focussed on helping the rider improve his lap times. Thanks to the inertial platform and the Ride By Wire pioneered by Aprilia, the ATC not only reduces torque when the rear wheel slips but lets the rider control tail sliding when exiting a bend, giving him a better feel for throttle control, depending on lean angle.
Aprilia ATC is quickly, easily activated from the instrument panel menu and offers 8 settings. When the ATC is enabled, the rider can change setting in an instant at any time using a joystick on the left handlebar to suit track, pavement or tyre conditions, without closing the throttle and keeping his hands on the handlebar, as in professional motorcycle racing. This way, the system can adjust to every single bend of any track so as to meet the specific requirements of any rider, including the most expert ones.
The other incredible achievement of Aprilia technology is the system's "learning capacity". Current traction control systems are designed and optimised for a single size and type of tyre. This limit frequently cancels the benefits of traction control. Aprilia Traction Control (ATC) has overcome this limit: a procedure activated by the rider enables the system to learn the tyre radius and final ratio adopted on the bike to obtain fine-tuned traction control.

AWC: stability at top acceleration
Exploiting the full power of modern superbikes down to the very last HP is every rider's dream. Aprilia's AWC (Aprilia Wheelie Control) has achieved extraordinary results. Thanks to the exclusive Aprilia patented Wheelie Detection System, the AWC is able to “tell” when a wheelie begins and ends and kicks in to smoothen wheel contact with the road. Smooth, soft wheelie management avoid harsh power cuts or pick-up, providing perfect acceleration control. Again, the AWC system is activated from the instrument panel and can be adjusted independently from other control systems choosing from three settings to better meet rider requirements.

ALC: the best holeshot
The perfect start is yet another racer's dream, because a good start frequently means you're half way towards a victory. When the lights go out, handling the huge power of modern superbikes is no easy task. Unless the bike handles it itself to offer its best starting performance. The ALC (Aprilia Launch Control) system ensures an instant start as the lights go out, applying full power to the road to assist the rider in this critical moment of the race. All the rider needs to do is give full throttle and release the clutch as he normally would and shift gears. The ALC has three settings that can be selected from the instrument panel menu, then it must be “armed” at standstill, by squeezing both traction control buttons on the left handlebar joystick at the same time.

AQS: record-breaking shifting
When you're after the utmost lap performance, you can't afford to waste even one thousandth of a second in an apparently simple operation like shifting. RSV4 Factory APRC SE is the first Aprilia bike that comes with the Aprilia Quick Shift as standard. Basically, the quick shift shortens spark advance for an instant and then gradually restores it, making for super-fast shifting with no need to close the throttle or use the clutch. The system works hand in hand with the new closer spaced gearbox to limit RPM drop during shifting for faster lap times. To optimise AQS performance, Aprilia engineers have fine-tuned power cut timing based on shifting RPM.
The ride is amazing, the balance of the bike is perfect for my riding style and the seating position is very good… but for my height (6ft) I think the handlebar needs to be a little higher, but then again I normally right cruisers.

It does lag in the looks department to some but for me I think it look good and it more than makes up for it in overall performance

Anyone try the Aprilia Tuono APRC

hi,,

This bike covers all bases, swapped a Fireblade in for this bike and it does not disappoint, the power and torque is unbelievable, engine braking is so so good you hardly need the brakes, no chicken strips on this bike it handles superbly, electronics are amazing and give you so much confidence.very thirsty however only about 100 miles to the tank but well worth it, sound form stock exhaust is also great, not found any negatives a as of yet .
