1980 Ferrari 308/288 GTO/GTU IMSA

Now here's a racer that we are certain Magnum P.I. would trade in his classic Ferrari 308 for. Higgins would most likely not approve but then again he never did of Magnum's tactics! Based on the homologated 288GTO programme, this 1980 Ferrari 308/288 GTO/GTU IMSA racer would make any track junkie a very happy camper. Recently updated with a new 3.2-liter engine, programmable MOTEC fuel-injection, dash and engine management control systems, huge BREMBO double-pot floating calipers, and so much more it's hard to not lust after spending an afternoon on the tarmac with this beast!

Bill Noon tells us:

The body is based on the homologated 288GTO program and extremely beautiful giving the car a clean and clear appearance of going 200+ mph while standing still!

The design and construction of this car went all out but the work took far too long and when done in the mid-90s, rules changes made the car obsolete and the new owner, ArtSports stored the car with occasional track use during "club" days only.

Not long ago the car was updated with a new 3.2-liter engine and programable MOTEC fuel-injection, dash and engine management control systems. The brakes were upgrated to BREMBO double-pot, floating caliper systems with dual circuits and fitted to cross-drilled and ventilated calipers at all four corners. 18-inch wheels and massively-wide tires now fill all four wheel-arches. Hydraulic actuation for the brakes and clutch is by Tilden with a lock-out for parking as well as cockpit controlled balance, both fore and aft. A full compliment of safety features including fire-supressoin system, race seat and belts as well as front and rear tow-hooks have been carefully integrated into the car's construction. A full roll-cage which is rigidly welded and integral with the car' s frame ensures maximum safety as well as stiffening of the car's handling considerably.

The programable MOTEC fuel-injection and digital dash monitoring system are state of the art and both easy to use and extremely reliable. Body work is fully-modular and can be completely removed and refitted by two people in less than 10 minutes! The car has no accident damage and very little indication of the limited track use it has had in years gone by. The motor currently has only set-up and dyno time and produces in excess of 300bhp at less than 7,000rpm! A compression check just last week produced perfect results with individuals cylinder's ranging from 180-190lbs cold!
If anyone has interest in this feel free to PM and I'll put you in touch, how cool is this thing!

Hmm, doesn't float my boat really, though I am a huge fan of the 288 GTO.
