LOL!
Seriously I think he'd do a good job. I don't see his shifting the tax burden onto the rich going well though, that's all his friends AND customers!

I'm pretty sure my company's CIO had a graph in one of his research pieces a while back that showed the number of government-owned vehicles for the top 5-10 countries. The United States was 2nd with something like 3x the number of whichever country was 3rd. Italy was 1st with 6x the number of the United States.

Yup, this was in the news a couple weeks ago. They spend more than 1% of GDP just on the "Blue cars" which are the cars for government officials. All big Audis, Mercs, etc. They're basically immune to prosecution and just 2 days ago while on my way back from Zurich one blew by me at a good 160mph blue lights flashing.
In other words, if they stopped giving them free cars, the deficit would be cut by half.

Maybe!
My preference would, no doubt.
Italy needs a change of policy, these are mostly false when they are not correct ..
Monti has now taxed, in 2012 will pay about 15000 euro property taxes for my car may be fine but the costs of the policy have not been considered at all.
Apart from the cost of politics, I was surprised by their infinite arrogance.

Not sure if he is able to obtain the party power he is going to need to ram reforms through Parliament, Italia Futura (his centrist/to the left political group) doesn't have enough to do it, and the composite coalition will be difficult to manage. Its not like a boardroom where he can fire the incompetents. The cache of Ferrari will help, but only in getting attention for his reform ideas. The Italian people will have to buy into the several ideas that won't come easy to them, including giving up some soveriegnty in order to maintain their currency status within the EU. He is also of the Piedmont, which means as a northerner his family was heavily involved in the Italian unification in the 1800s.
