ridiculous good post

h20skier 07-22-2011 10:27 AM

Where did the pictures come from Alex? They took all of our camera's when we were there.

That machine you show was amazing. It's freeze, heat process for the rods of the engine was so cool.

That 250 GT Lusso -

looks kinda relaxed compared to the BMW assembly line where all the workers look like clones controlled by a main computer :)

This
I actually felt there was one person too many at every car.

The V8 line shown in the pictures takes 20 minutes per location and there was 3-4 people working on each spot. I guess they need it but I sure don't know why. Very organized, each car has a box that travels the entire line with it with all extras. Not a lot is automated either except the handling of the cars and movement around the plant. Still 90% down by hand in my book. The windshield robot was cool as well. All good stuff.

I was totally amazed that I had any interest in it honestly I only went because my nephew wanted to see the place so I called FNA and asked them to squeeze us into a tour. To my amazement I thought it was cool as well.

The FXX (tho I hate enzo's) and 599XX and F1 sections of the factory were cool if for nothing else to see 20 or more FXX, 30 or so F1 cars and at least 15 ea 599xx in one warehouse. I followed the rules and snapped no pictures but I will say a certain all White with blacked out roof and window FXX would have been an easy choice on the A) Which car would you like to Lap Fiorano in Mr H20 :) question

2800 employees and the first pictures you see of the engine assembly line are mainly Maserati engines btw.

My original opinion of going to see the factory was I love my Ferrari's and I love my wife but on neither occassion did I really want to see how they were made

No problem. It's just so much easier to scroll through this way and see everything quickly.

Mark, thanks for sharing your experience with the factory tour. Do you have to own a Ferrari to go on a tour or can anyone go if you arrange it in advance? I've always wanted to check that place out.

that's a question I can't answer. I will say that 3 people on our tour where there and the guy said it took him 10 months to get on a tour. I emailed the day before I left to FNA and got on a tour. My dealer had to send them a voucher that I was a client to get me in. The guy on the tour didn't have a car until just recently so he I believe got the tour many months in advance by waiting.

So I doubt that answered anything for sure. I would call your local dealer and ask.

Thanks for the info. No F-car dealers within 500 miles so I might have to wait til one of you guys goes again and tag along. :)

very specific 2 people at a time is all they said I could get without putting in a lot of effort including me. So it will be a toss up between you, my wife or KT whomever is nicest to me at the time. I don't ever need to go back though.

KT 07-22-2011 03:44 PM

Lol, Mark. Alex, outta my way!

Seriously, I'm glad you were pleasantly surprised by the tour. A bit strange that you had no interest prior.. I can understand say, not caring about how my leather bag was made but get me inside a sports car factory and that's another story entirely.

Maybe I'll have you set it up for KT's sister and I then...
