What is it that brings us back here? What drives us to go faster, push harder and brake later? Just to lap the Nordschleife in under 7 minutes....:

Top Gear's Exclusive: McLaren P1’s 'Ring lap time
McLaren has only revealed that the P1 ‘achieved its one remaining performance target' - a Nürburgring lap time starting with a ‘six' - that necessitated an average speed ‘in excess of 111mph' around the 13-mile track.
Let's do the math:
111 mph = 49,62 m/s
Nordschleife = 20600 m
Lap time: 20600/49,62 = 415,16 s = less than 6 min 55,2 s

I like that they left a question out there. The 918 seems to be evolving some how. It's numbers seem to improve weekly. I'm sure the Ferrari will do the same thing. It doesn't make sense for anyone to lay a hard number down. The next company will just adjust the tune, pull out some weight or use NASA compounds in the tires. McLaren has never really established a time for the 12C. I think the only number is from 2010 before the upgrade. In fact if I remember correctly it was suspiciously exact to the 458. I would like to see a race series with cars certified as stock driven on a sample of 3-4 tracks. That would be interesting.
