THE MASERATI TROFEO WORLD SERIES ARRIVES IN THE USA WITH A STAR TEAM: PATRICK DEMPSEY AND GREG TRACY

The Maserati GranTurismo MC Trofeo World Series will make its North American debut at Sonoma Raceway the weekend of September 21st with the World Touring Car Championship. Famed actor and accomplished race driver Patrick Dempsey and top stuntman and racer Greg Tracy will be competing in the GranTurismo MC Trofeo. The Dempsey-Tracy team will compete against 23 other cars.

As well as being one of today’s top film and television actors, (best known for his role as neurosurgeon Dr. Derek Shepherd "McDreamy"), Patrick Dempsey has also been a top-tier sports car racing driver and team owner for nearly a decade. He is a regular competitor in both the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series and the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) and has raced in internationally recognised events such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Rolex 24 At Daytona. Dempsey is owner of his own team, Dempsey Racing, in which he drives for himself alongside four other drivers. Dempsey continues his work in Hollywood, with two new films on the big screen “Flypaper” and “Transformers”: Darkside of the Moon”.

His copilot, stuntman Greg Tracy, is Hot Wheels X Games 2012 Double Loop Dare Guinness World Record holder. He has performed stunts in The Avengers, GI Joe, Bourne Ultimatum, Wanted, TalladegaNights andThe Fast and Furious. Tracy was also six-time winner of thePikes Peak International Hill Climb, has won the Baja 1000 and competed in Formula 2000.

The Trofeo Maserati MC World Series is aimed at gentleman drivers from around the world and this year is even more interesting because of the important technical innovations and regulation changes introduced by Maserati. The GranTurismo MC Trofeo also has new set up for 2012, featuring an aerodynamic body-kit and reduced weight.

All drivers will try to beat the defending champion, David Baldi, while the teams will battle against each other to try to get the team title.

All the cars that appear in the Trofeo series are strictly derived from production cars and are made track-ready by a dedicated team of technicians to ensure that the drivers race on a level playing field. The private teams can use their own vehicles with specifications 2010, 2011 or 2012, but must meet the approval standards and technical requirements established by Maserati.

Maserati will also use the weekend to celebrate the first deliveries of the new 2013 Maserati GranTurismo Sport and Sport Convertible in the U.S, the largest market for Maserati worldwide.

On the same days, the Sonoma track will also host the first FIA World Touring Car Championship, World Series AutoGP and the United States Touring Car Championship U.S.
