Matt11145's 350z Modified Class-World Time Attack Car

Okay so this has now been a 1.5 year build and counting thus far and I want to get everyone up to speed on this project. I need to explain beforehand, why I’m doing the build this way. The build was originally going to be done on my true right hand drive, not a conversion, S14.5 but do to a shop screwing me over (selling the parts off the car and sending the rest of the shell to a recycling yard even though they were supposed to be just doing the cage hah) I no longer had that car to build. The reason I had no idea that this was happening, was because back on December 7th 2010, my house burned down which had me a bit distracted from my car. Also, the fire destroyed 90% of the remaining parts that I was going to be placing on the S14.

Here is a quick story about the fire.

At 12am on December 7th 2010, the fire alarm went off. The garage had caught fire do to a wrongly installed heating system the week before. It was a massive fire, the fire department said it is the worst fire they had ever seen. 23 fire departments had to come out, over 300 fire fighters, and 50+ fire trucks and water tankers. Also, the fire lasted for nearly 8 hours. About 2 hours in the tankers and trucks ran out of water, so they pumped water from every place available...they pumped the water out of the pool, out of the lake, and they were even pumping water out of a creek down the street. also, the 25mph winds that night didnt help at all, it was blowing it towards the rest of the house and was only stirring up the fire more. Luckily, no one was hurt and the fire fighters were able to save the oldest part of the historic house which dates back to 1740, but unfortunately two thirds of the house were considered a complete loss.

Here is a picture of the house before the fire.

Though the outside doesn't look to bad in the middle section, it was actually gutted by the fire along with the third floor on the big porch section.

At that point, I was basically building a car from scratch (except I already had money sent out for the new engine). I went through a long search of looking for a car…but I wanted to build on a chassis that I haven’t built yet. So, I looked for r32, S15, m3 e30, but I ended up finding a well-priced and 100% rust free 350z that I was able to pick up.

As for this car build, it is doing to be my modified class time attack car…and maybe see the street on an absolutely perfect day. NO CHEAP PARTS and NO CUT CORNERS will be done on this build. DON'T bother saying any negative comments about the engine/chassis combination. An SR is lighter than a VQ and is able to sit further back/lower in the engine bay giving it a better center of gravity along with a better 50/50 weight distribution. also, this car will not have any power issues (i will show you with some of the future updates) should have plenty of power for the car. one of the big things im trying to do with this build, is to be a bit different then everyone else. im trying to pick parts and do things to the car that most people dont do...that will possibly explain why I'm doing what im doing :) LETS GET STARTED!

This is how the car looked the day I got it!

It was also a turbo 350z at the time when i bought it but i sold all of that right when i bought it.

time for the engine setup to come out and go bye bye! (VINs got cut off since we are ripping the tubbing out of the engine bay, will weld VINs back onto the firewall before paint)

I also had the Mazworx water pump block off plate, since I will be running an external electronic power steering pump.

http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...69962833_n.jpg

so, like i said in the first post, im going for being a bit different with this build...trying to do things a lot of people don't do. so i decided to go with a liquid to air intercooler setup to be a bit different but to also try it out since i have never personaly tried this type of cooling before. This setup is rated for 1200hp, so im sure it will work fine.

heat exchanger (radiator for the intercooler) 26 X 7 X 3.5
Liquid to Air Intercooler 15 X 6.5 X 6
Ice Box (for track days)
Bosch Cobra Pump
dual fans for the heat exchanger

the back story to this is that the U.S. branch of Tomei had no idea that they even sold a 1.5-way conversion kit of it so they had to call the Japan branch to ask if they even sold a kit to make it a 1.5-way...turns out they do :)

That looks like a top build. The 350 has a pretty nice chassis to work with.
