HG Motorsports Custom Dyno Tuned 996 GT2 Porsche 996 GT2 Turbo Engine Management Calibration http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8032/7...df0d6cee_b.jpg iMovie by HG Motorsports, on Flickr It started as a dream and has now become a reality. HG Motorsports started out as a small company, with a few key entrepreneurs attending track events, learning firsthand what it takes to build and maintain a variety of racecars. As time passed by, customers demanded more including more road going options for their daily drivers and weekend racers. Now with a new master calibrator (William Knose) on hand the stage is set for another leap forward. As the Porsche 996 GT2 rolled into the HGMS facility we asked our client what were some of his main concerns with the calibration and what he would like to attain from the custom calibration? According to the customer, “At the track there is a lot of hesitation and misfires in and out of corners, while the main concern of detonation on the stock calibration is worrisome.” We did a thorough inspection of the vehicle before the initial phases of calibration to make sure everything was in order. Some notes from the client, spark plugs were changed between track events and though it helped a bit with misfires and hesitation it did not resolve the issues. The client also had the BBI exhaust on before calibrating but it replaced to stock for an accurate baseline reading on a completely stock vehicle. When we jumped into calibrating the OE (original equipment) engine management system, the focus was to resolve these issues and improve the entire calibration. After much testing and adjusting the final pulls where made and the final results were not based on power but how the car reacts to the drivers input. We wanted the perfect calibration for a daily driver and focused individual. Upon completion of the calibration, we asked our client upon completion of a Targa Trophy event, what are some of the major improvements you saw over how the car was received. The customer stated, “The vehicle was more lively, power delivery was more predictable, and much smoother overall. Prior to this the car had a turbo lag, then abruptly kicked in, but now the throttle control is incredible with a much more linear power band, a pleasure to drive.” Stock Baseline Specs Dyno: AWD Dyno Dynamics Wheel Horsepower: 370 Peak Wheel Torque: 370 Peak MPG Highway: Unknown MPG Stock Exhaust and EM Calibration Specs Dyno: AWD Dyno Dynamics Wheel Horsepower: 380 Peak Wheel Torque: 410 Peak MPG Highway: 23 MPG BBI and EM Calibration Specs Dyno: AWD Dyno Dynamics Wheel Horsepower: 400 Peak Wheel Torque: 435 Peak MPG Highway: 25 MPG With all of our customers, power and torque are usually not the focus of concern where as consistent, reliable, and smooth control is a must whether you are on the road or at the track.
