Porsche (997)911 GT2/RS (2007-2012)

The most sportive model offered by Porsche is the GT2. This car exhibits Porsche’s advanced technology, which is demonstrated in its ceramic composite brakes, maximum engine power with twin turbines and variable turbine geometry, but mainly, in its uncompromising lightweight components. The 997 GT2 is the first Porsche and also the first serial car which is originally equipped with a titanium exhaust system.

The Akrapovič GT2 Upgrade Kit 1 consists of lightweight titanium headers with cast titanium flanges for a perfect, leak-free fit. In addition, the kit also includes a pair of high-flow sport catalysts (400 cpsi). These catalysts connect directly to the OEM titanium muffler without any alterations. The catalysts are designed such that no ECU reprogramming for GT2 (997) is required. The “Check Engine Light” will not be triggered with this installation at GT2 (997). The headers and high flow catalysts combined will deepen the exhaust tone, making the engine sound more aggressive. Furthermore, with the significant reduction in backpressure there is an increase in horsepower without any further modification being necessary. Gains of 19 horsepower and an amazing 43 Nm / 32 lbs-ft of torque will be realized with the installation of this kit alone. A 2 kg / 5 lbs. weight reduction is also achieved.

Because of comfort, durability and strict noise requirements regarding the exhaust system, some kind of compromise had to be made. This was reason enough for us to develop a real “sport-exhaust version” for this super sports car. Our requirements were very simple: lighter, more powerful and better sounding exhaust system. Two hiflow 100 cpsi metallic cats, larger tube diameters, measuring not 55, but 60 mm and reduced the power-consuming backpressure. This resulted in a power increase of 8 HP, a torque increase of 68 Nm and weight savings of 2 kg, compared to the stock system.

Building on the modular theme, the Evolution system adds performance headers to the standard slip on system for additional performance gains. Two hiflow 100 cpsi metallic cats, larger tube diameters, measuring not 55, but 60 mm, reduced the power-consuming backpressure by more than 50 %. This resulted in a power increase of 41 HP, a torque increase of 74 Nm and weight savings of 5 kg, compared to the stock system.

A Porsche 911 GT3/RS (997.1) that is equipped with an Akrapovič Slip-On exhaust system is more powerful and lighter, even though the exhaust system is not replaced in its entirety. The sound of its six valve engine is also noticeably improved. A look at the numbers reveals that the Slip-On offers a 2 kg weight reduction in the rear of the Porsche 911 GT3/RS of and a 4 HP and 3 Nm increase in power. The reduced weight provides better steerability and the increased power additionally spices up sports driving, because the changes offer better lap times. Two tail pipes, measuring a 100 millimeters in diameter, make it clear that the Akrapovič Slip-On system is no ordinary exhaust.

The Akrapovič aftermarket Sports Cup exhaust system is based on the Porsche Sports Cup rules, which means retaining the original exhaust manifold with integrated catalysts. We therefore developed a performance and weight optimized titanium end muffler with appropriate link pipes as the connecting piece to the manifold. This kind of construction reduces the weight by almost 21 kg in comparison to the original exhaust system.

The weight distribution of the vehicle is improved considerably, because of the weight reduction in the area behind the engine and the rear axle, which has a extremely positive effect on the handling. The limit range of the vehicle adjusts upwards and so a higher transverse acceleration is possible. The combination of improved power to weight ratio (through an increased efficiency of over 8 HP), torque progression by over 16 Nm, and the positive effects in connection with driving dynamics enhance the performance of the GT3 distinctively. The sound in this configuration is somewhat below the sound of the original system with the opened exhaust cap.

The Akrapovič Evolution aftermarket exhaust system is based on the same layout as the original exhaust system of the GT3 with valve control. A newly developed exhaust manifold with 100 cpsi sports catalysts guarantees an increase in power and torque, as do the newly developed and optimized pre mufflers. But the real plus of this exhaust system is the weight reduction of 17 kg, while it maintains the original layout and functionality of the exhaust caps.
