Just got back from Daytona and my 2010 Gt3 in the Porsche corral with my 4 year old. I managed to corner one of the very very higher ups of Porsche motorsport and he was VERY open with 991 info. He saw my car and I started asking him about the 991 GT3 cup and then going on to what he knew about the street car. What he told me is the following. 1.9A1 motor for sure with 480 hp for GT3 2. PDK-S (he used this term twice) which has been tested with the 9A1 for over 4 years he claims. 3.Weight loss of 180-200 lbs through use of composites. 4.Aboslutely no hybrid tech.He said specifically it doesnt fit the GT3 motif. 5.Confirmed no more Gt1 (Mezger) block after GT3 RS LE (he confirmed 4.0 RSR motor). 6.Stressed the move of the motor forward essentially making the car a mid-engine car, even though Porsche will never call it one. He says this will make the car more balanced. I wont say the guy's name but he is in a very high position within P-motorsport. http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5258/...fc2d2b1f_b.jpg |
Confirmed no more Gt1 (Mezger) block after GT3 RS LE That's it. I'm holding on to my 997.1 forever. |
Pdk...nooooooo!! |
Sounds pretty cool. I am sure the PDK-S is an option but one can have a proper manual. GT3RS LE XYZ, does actually sound pretty damn cool |

I do not like that PDK is even available. Is that weight loss compared to a 991 C2S or a 997.2 GT3? Probably the former. Thanks for the info. |
Porsche has jumped the shark. |
The member said PDK-"S", which sounds like a lighter, faster, more involving version of the PDK. Porsche did say that they would never put a PDK in a GT3 unless they could make it as involving and as weight efficient as the manual transmission. It sounds like PDK-S has accomplished in that aspect. After all, the GT3 is supposed to be the most involving 911. Why would Porsche water down the GT3? The GT3 doesn't appeal to the general public, and I think Porsche is totally aware of that. This is a homolagated race car, not a purpose built daily driver that can go around a track. What I like about Porsche is that they are reducing the weight of all of their cars significantly while most other manufacturers are adding the tech and packing on the pounds. @wyatth It seems that the motorsports guy was comparing the weight reduction to the base 991 Carrera. |
An automatic transmission will never be as involving as a manual. |
The sky is not falling guys. Relax. You all know it will be A-mazing. |
