One of the engine's (with the higher miles- who could that be?:) is getting more of a work-over... In the connecting rod department we do feel it necessary to get new rod bearings and bolts. Here's you can see a comparison between the pankl GT3 rod and a Twin Turbo one (yes I know it's a little bent lol!): http://videos.g33kd.net/gt3rods_v_tu...s/P1110996.JPG The Titanium GT3 ones are obviously lighter but by how much you ask?:) http://videos.g33kd.net/gt3rods_v_tu...s/P1110995.JPG Certainly helps the GT3 rev quicker;) http://videos.g33kd.net/gt3rods_v_tu...s/P1110994.JPG So after 37.5K on this motor you can see that there is indeed some decent wear on the rod bearings, which we're replacing. http://videos.g33kd.net/gt3rods_v_tu...s/P1110997.JPG http://videos.g33kd.net/gt3rods_v_tu...s/P1110999.JPG All well and good but never mind the work to do that but because we're dealing with one-time use stretch bolts you need 12X new ones: http://videos.g33kd.net/gt3rods_v_tu...s/P1120020.JPG http://videos.g33kd.net/gt3rods_v_tu...s/P1120021.JPG Take a long hard look at this $58 dollar bolt:P At least the bearings are only $19 a piece.... |
A few more fun things for today fellas... In go the lifters.. http://videos.g33kd.net/cam_timing_g...s/P1120010.JPG And the intake plus exhaust cam shafts... http://videos.g33kd.net/cam_timing_g...s/P1120023.JPG There's a few fun tools here including the factory timing blocks that you can't really see... It's a two person job really with some MEGA wrenches:D http://videos.g33kd.net/cam_timing_g...s/P1120013.JPG On goes all the top side "faff" including the wiring harnesses, intake manifold etc... http://videos.g33kd.net/cam_timing_g...s/P1120037.JPG One other change we're making is removing the gt3 pulley in place of the RS one (also used on new 2010 997GT3s mind you) as we're getting a much more rev-happy engine here... Original one comes off: http://videos.g33kd.net/cam_timing_g...s/P1120038.JPG On goes the RS one... http://videos.g33kd.net/cam_timing_g...s/P1120041.JPG In reference to the earlier post about the factory rear main seal and the leaking you get... this is a picture of how it's supposed to look- no leaks with the 996gt3 one. http://videos.g33kd.net/cam_timing_g...s/P1120046.JPG |
But the silver one was not yet done... Slight smell of coolant in the front and with 37.5K of unprotected mileage the front radiator was a little worse for wear... Off came the bumper... http://videos.g33kd.net/end_of_builds_gt3/P1120105.JPG With some cleaning look at some of the stuff she'd collected: http://videos.g33kd.net/end_of_builds_gt3/P1120110.JPG Here's the old one vs' the new one... Not a pretty sight;) http://videos.g33kd.net/end_of_builds_gt3/P1120112.JPG With the new radiator in place we added some protection with the Cargraphic screens: http://videos.g33kd.net/end_of_builds_gt3/P1120124.JPG http://videos.g33kd.net/end_of_builds_gt3/P1120125.JPG And now the silver one is ready for some action again.... but before you know it in comes another whitey:P http://videos.g33kd.net/end_of_builds_gt3/P1120182.JPG |
This is such a nice build. This car must be a beast with that much HP and high rev. Great work! |

Nice, I somewhat know the feeling. It's just mine takes 4 more cyclinders to do it. Congrats again on such fine work. Very impressive. |
Nice work guys, have you done two 3.9Ls so far? |
