Clutchless Shifting

Random question -- I shift clutchless up and down in my car reasonably often (a three pedal 6-speed, no need for *insert autotranny joke here*), and used to do it on the sportbike all the time. Any of you guys do it?

Are you missing your left leg from a horrific accident?

My Turbo won't shift unless I clutch.

It can be done, but unless you have a dog-cut sequential gearbox made for doing full throttle clutchless upshifts, why put your tranny through that?

Not full throttle, just rev-matched. Slips right in...and I do use the clutch around town. I usually do it for lazy 5th-6th or 6th-4th on/off highways. It is slower shifting on a car, but easily as quick on a bike.

In a semi, I only use the clutch to stop, and go. The same can be done with any manual, you have to match the rpm to shift at the right time. When downshifting, you must raise the rpms to drop gears. It is all about rpms vs speed. If you do it correctly, it will go into gear without hesitation, do it wrong, and you will know!

I'm guess I am just not brave enough! :)

Yep, I think all semi drivers drive clutchless since it is constant shifting.

It is a very cool feeling to perfectly match the rpm and just slide the shifter like butter. I do it mostly for novelty. Not much a believer in doing it all the time just to "save the clutch."

I've done it in the past and will do it again when I buy another manual trans vehicle.

I had a friend who used to do this in his pick-up truck and I thought he was nuts!

Can you explain how it is done exactly?
