Apple TV (take 2) update delayed

1 Attachment(s)
Well, the rumors are true, the Apple TV "take 2" update, which was due yesterday, is officially delayed. According to Apple, they are planning to "make the free software download available to existing Apple TV customers in another week or two." Not a deal-killer by any means, but certainly a temporary bummer for those who can't wait to start renting (HD) movies on their device.

Still very far from Optical HD media...

anyone currently using the apple tv, was thinking of picking one up.

I like the concept but it should be 1080p IMO.

very true. that's about the only downside. I'm sure apple is on it.

They will have to invent a SERIOUS codec to be able to provide 1080p with HD lossless audio. It's impossible facing the current limitations of bandwidth to provide such high bandwidth. 30GB is currently needed to provide a film in true high definition. mkv/apple tv is a far cry from getting there. Audio and video wise.

I see thanks for letting me in on that, you must either be a hardcore enthusiast or in the business or both.

A little bit of both. It's just that not all HD is created equal, my only advice is get informed because you will take a hit sooner or later with all these formats having no standard.

I am extremely impressed with mine, about to buy another one for my bedroom. It is amazing that this $200 box has made my 2 year old Escient music server obsolete - which cost me about 15x as much. The HD video quality i would consider "acceptable", close to OTA.
