The Teamspeed Lamborghini Countach Picture Thread

First shown at the 1971 Geneva Motorshow, the Countach prototype featured a 5 litre version of the much acclaimed V12 engine. The drivetrain's longitudinal configuration and displacement explained the type indication 'LP500'. Like it's predecessor the Countach featured an innovative adaptation of the mid-engined layout; this time the gearbox was mounted in front of the engine for a better weight balance. The power was then transferred to the rear wheels by a driveshaft, which ran through its own tunnel in the engine's sump. This would become a trademark mid-engine Lamborghini layout for decades to come.

Although visually similar the production car was almost completely different from the first running prototype. Gone were the monocoque chassis and 5 litre engine, which were replaced by a tubular frame and the Miura derived four litre engine. The prototype's powerplant proved to be too fragile and eventually self destructed in a high speed test session. Some of the original car's clean lines were lost by the addition of a number of necessary cooling ducts and vents. What was retained was the unique scissor-like door mechanism, another soon to be Lamborghini trademark feature.

Two years after the prototype's debut, the production car was launched and officially dubbed Countach LP400. Production of Lamborghini's iconic supercar would last for nearly two decade. Before it was replaced in 1990 five different evolutions of the Countach were constructed. With each evolution power increased and so did the amount of plastic used for additional flares and bodykits. The five litre engine finally became available in 1982 and three years later four valve heads were introduced, bumping the power to 455 bhp for the European version from the original 375 bhp of the LP400. Those are great pics. I always forget about this car, but it also was one of my childhood dreams. It has aged beautifully. I would love to pick one up.

A car I would love to own one day you just have to admire the lines and the sound of that V12:smilie:

I always liked this car. There wasn't a straight kid in the 80s that didn't have a poster of this car on his wall.

Interesting lighter hue of blue (w/ white leather!)...

esthetique 04-26-2008 05:35 AM

poster, hell, i grew up with a stack of lamborghini books.
when you look at the countach enough, you really do start to see multiple cues that they stole to model the murcielago.

alkyoneus 04-28-2008 03:46 AM

love the pearl white

Hernando 06-08-2008 09:41 PM

What an amazing car. It`s been my favorite since I first saw one at the airport when I was a child.

Coochas 06-08-2008 10:01 PM

This is a great pic thread.
I seem to recall reading a R&T article on the Countach demonstrating its 0-60 time of 5.0 seconds and thinking to myself,....wow, they'll never beat that! Now we're talking about getting under 3 seconds!

And yes,....I too had the posters.

JavaChip 11-28-2008 01:37 PM

When I was a kid growing up, always dreamed of having one of these, one of my favorite countachs was the 25th Anniversary....

What the hell is this!?! It's sooo cool. I love it. I am a big fan of concepts! I found it on the website BSM placed a link to. I also found many pics of the Countach, so I will post them as to not divert from the wonderful subject of this thread.

how about copper'ish, this is a 79, one of the last cars made before Lamborghini when into receivership.Same guy also owns the black lp5000S

pinoyamg 01-11-2009 10:52 PM

Yup, its brian's car... the black one has a sale pending. Great story on the copper too.

Vandalia911 01-13-2009 01:50 PM

The yellow one reminds me of the Autobot Sunstreaker...ah the 1980's. I don't think an injustice would be done by having a small autobot logo on it somewhere ;)

Vandalia911 01-13-2009 02:32 PM

Quick Photoshop job...

Here's a quick P-shop to see...I realize the calipers aren't in the correct place, but for the sake of decent lighting I left them. I did a few different versions, and tried a few color combos. Apologies if this is considered too off topic. The HRE's on the white car are supposed to be gold, although they look a little too green. Use your imagination. Haha.

quickZohsix 01-13-2009 06:59 PM

I spot fat cab's car:lol:
