SoundMan Installs iPad in Toyota Tacoma's Dash!

"SANTA CLARITA, California — Although Hyundai already announced it will sell every 2011 Equus with an Apple iPad as an owner's manual, the aftermarket has already started coming up with some solutions of its own in the giddy hours following the iPad's official release. SoundMan Car Audio wasted no time fitting an iPad into the dash of a Toyota Tacoma.
In the video below, the SoundMan team shows step-by-step how it performed the installation. The iPad in the dash is merely a mock setup for the moment, but the team has plans to get an elaborate sound system up soon that will go along with the iPad.

In this Tacoma, SoundMan installed an Audison Bit One processor, a McIntosh six-channel amp, Onkyo ND-S1 and an iPod dock. The team repositioned some of the switches to the left of the steering wheel and installed the Bit One there, which will control the volume and audio settings. Post-installation, the iPad is now the only media source in the Tacoma.

In the video, the installers pull up Pandora as well as a YouTube video after they complete the iPad head unit conversion. Of course, SoundMan only had access to the WiFi version of the iPad, though, which means the unit has to be connected to a wireless network to utilize its full capabilities. That will likely change when the 3G model comes out later this month."

Looks silly imo. Looks like they just stuck it in, and left it there.

WOW can you add another distraction for drivers? I hear the iPad sucks in natural light. I just hope this car doesn't drive in my neck of the woods.:nono:

About as smart as replacing your gauge cluster with a tv screen. Installer just wanted attention.

Obama is taxing indoor tanning salon services, he should take action against idiots like these that makes the roads 100x more dangerous.

These are installed with a P-brake interface. If the brake isn't engaged, the device will not power up. Some will power up but any buttons or touch screen capabilities become locked (so you can play your music, you just can't change it while driving) Granted, this can be by-passed but no MECP certified installer I know will do it for you, high liability.

a tv screen instead of a cluster is pretty much the same thing, you are taking your eyes from the road either way.

Why all the hating? Just about every car out there comes with a tv screen of some sort today whether it's the central command station or a nav unit or whatever.
