Poorly Installed Clear Bra - Why Installer is So Important

We cannot stress this enough. Quality should be the #1 concern when it comes to an aesthetic mod especially when it comes to clear bra application. If quality is overlooked and pricing becomes too much of an issue, this might not be a good option for those interested in protecting the paint. In this case, paint protection film, should be rather "clear". Too often, would consumers believe that quality is equal. Unfortunately, rarely is this the case.

Below are some photographs of a poorly installed clear bra on darker colored Cayman. The previous clear bra installer made 2 attempts at the application and the results are below

This is just an example of scores of poor installations we see annually. In this case, not only was the clear bra pretty visible, the previous installer also put some pretty deep razor cuts into the paint. This may be disturbing to most, but it's something we see every week when someone brings in a vehicle and is not happy with his or her installer.

Keep in mind that the newer and less experienced clear film installers rely on lower pricing to obtain work and experience. For this vehicle, there was more damage created from the razor cuts than rock chips had there not been a clear bra installed

The last two pictures show the film completely removed, yet you would see very deep outlines of the razor cuts in the paint.

We would like to stress this again. For those looking into paint protection film installation, please do not rely solely on pricing. This is the area where you truly get what you pay for. In the case of the Cayman above, there was extensive polishing that took place to remove most of those deep razor cuts.

Below are pictures of our installation replacing the poorly installed clear bra.

Some pointers here for teamspeed members to help you avoid such a costly mistake:

1. Look at their work prior - this is a very good determinate of how your car will come out
2. References
3. Check to see how long the company has been in business....the longer they have been doing this the more likely they will be around in case you have an issue. Here in Northern California, we have seen one very large company close down along with 2 smaller ones. For customers of these companies that had it done just weeks or months prior and have similar issues to this Porsche, they are out of luck. Film manufacturers generally do not pay another installer to remove and replace a poorly installed film.

What we have noticed from direct experience here at our two facilities. In general those who end up having this type of work occur have the following in common:

1. company A is only this much while you guys cost this much more (assumption here is that the quality is the same)
2. those who are having this done the first time
3. those who did not perform enough research about the product / service for paint protection film

Hope these pointers help out those here looking to having this done and avoiding certain pitfalls.

Looks like you just removed the half-assed clear bra and repainted the whole bumper without applying anything new! I say scam! :dizzy:

I need someone in my area who can do a good job.

I had someone my dealer recommended put a full front on, with precut. I was very unhappy with it, and had it done again. They gladly redid it, it is much better, but too be honest not what I expected for $1400.

I need new clear bra also. Sticker City butchered the job twice, I made them remove the bra. I would rather have nothing on the car then the job Sticker City did. Premier pls send a quote for a 03 TT.
